Role Description This full-time Forward Engineer role is a hybrid position based in Utrecht, with the option to work from home part of the week. The Forward Engineer will design, develop, and maintain assurance technology solutions that streamline risk, compliance, and information management workflows. Day-to-day tasks include collaborating with product and security teams to define technical requirements, implementing and testing new features, and improving system performance and reliability. The role also involves integrating external data sources (including AI model information from explain-ai.com), documenting technical solutions, and contributing to architectural decisions that enhance scalability and security. The Forward Engineer is expected to participate in code reviews, support issue resolution, and continuously explore new technologies relevant to digital security and compliance. Experience & Education Education: Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Software Development, Networking, Information Security, or a related field. A background in Law, Compliance or Business is also welcome if you have a clear appetite for technology and want to build your technical skills. Experience: 0 to 3 years in a customer-facing role in consulting, compliance, implementation, or solutions engineering. Experience at a SaaS or tech startup is a plus. Technical skills: Comfortable with (or eager to learn) APIs, data formats (JSON, CSV/Excel), and basic scripting (Python or TypeScript). Hands-on use of AI tools, LLMs, or MCP is a strong plus. Fluent English speaker with Dutch as a basis. French or German is a plus. Interest in cybersecurity, risk and compliance. Familiarity with frameworks such as ISO 27001, DORA, NIS2 or the EU AI Act is a plus. Commercial mindset: you enjoy talking with clients, understanding their problems and showing them how technology solves them. You love helping people become more efficient and better. Salary range: €3,200 - €4,500/month (according to experience and profile), plus 8% holiday allowance 25 days paid vacation /year

Requirements

Candidates should be comfortable with or eager to learn APIs, common data formats, and basic scripting, and have an interest in cybersecurity, risk, and compliance; English fluency and a foundation in Dutch are expected.
