About The Role We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Data Engineer to join our dynamic team focused on healthcare data solutions. In this role, you will be responsible for driving the technical direction of our data pipelines and data warehouse layers, ensuring the robustness, scalability, and reliability of our Patient Finder product. As a key leader, you will oversee end-to-end design and delivery of data platforms, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and mentor engineering colleagues. Your expertise will help standardize data engineering practices, optimize operational efficiency, and enhance data quality across our platforms. This is a hands-on leadership position requiring a blend of technical proficiency, strategic thinking, and team management skills. The ideal candidate will have a passion for healthcare innovation, a strong background in software and data engineering, and a desire to make a tangible impact on healthcare outcomes through data-driven solutions. Qualifications Extensive hands-on experience in Python development, focusing on scalable and maintainable solutions Proven expertise in designing, developing, and maintaining ETL/ELT data pipelines using orchestration frameworks such as Prefect, Airflow, Luigi, or Dagster Experience with dbt (Data Build Tool) for data transformation, modeling, testing, and deployment Proficiency with Databricks and large-scale data pipeline optimization Advanced SQL skills with experience in Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or similar RDBMS platforms Experience building and managing cloud-based data platforms, data warehouses, and Lakehouse architectures Leadership experience in guiding development teams and providing architectural guidance Strong understanding of data engineering best practices, including data quality, lineage, observability, and governance Familiarity with DevOps practices such as version control, CI/CD, and infrastructure-as-code Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to diverse stakeholders Ability to work effectively in agile environments and self-organizing teams Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field Located within Europe, preferably within commuting distance of Amsterdam, Netherlands Responsibilities Lead the end-to-end design, development, and deployment of data pipelines and data warehouse layers, primarily using Prefect, Python, and SQL Standardize data platform patterns, improve maintainability, and reduce operational overhead Ensure high data quality, lineage, and observability throughout all data processes Collaborate with Product and Engineering teams to refine requirements, shape delivery plans, and prioritize work backlogs based on business value and dependencies Implement release planning, validation strategies, and risk management protocols to ensure seamless platform updates Drive platform evolution through automation, best practices, and responsible AI-assisted engineering Partner with QA teams to enhance testing maturity, automate test coverage, and ensure pipeline reliability Coordinate with Application and AI/ML teams to integrate data components within the broader product ecosystem Manage and mentor the data engineering team, overseeing work prioritization, technical guidance, and professional development Promote engineering standards through code reviews, quality practices, and documentation Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies to continuously improve data infrastructure Benefits Opportunity to contribute to innovative healthcare solutions with a meaningful societal impact Collaborative work environment with a diverse, global team of professionals Flexible working arrangements, including remote, hybrid, or office-based work Professional development opportunities through training, mentorship, and exposure to cutting-edge technologies Competitive salary and benefits package Participation in cross-functional projects involving AI/ML and healthcare data standards Work in a forward-thinking organization committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion Equal Opportunity IQVIA is an equal opportunity employer. Core Responsibilities

Lead the design, development, and deployment of data pipelines and warehouse layers, improving platform standards, reliability, data quality, lineage, and observability. Guide and mentor the data engineering team, coordinate with product, engineering, QA, and AI/ML teams, and manage delivery planning, testing, releases, and platform evolution.

Requirements

Requires extensive Python and data engineering experience, including orchestration frameworks, dbt, Databricks, advanced SQL, and cloud data platforms or Lakehouse architectures. Candidates should have technical leadership experience, strong data engineering and DevOps practices, excellent communication skills, and a bachelor's or master's degree in a related field; the role is based in Europe, preferably near Amsterdam.
