Software Developer — Build Your Own Project with an AI Coding Assistant About The Role What if you could get paid to work on the project you've been meaning to build — with a state-of-the-art AI coding assistant at your side, completely free of charge? We're looking for software developers in the Amsterdam area to bring their own projects and build them using an AI-powered coding assistant. You write real code on real projects you care about. We learn from your expert judgment on how the assistant performed. You keep full ownership of everything you build. This is a fully remote, flexible contract role designed for developers who want to ship their own work — and get compensated for it. Organization: Alignerr Type: Hourly Contract Location: Fully Remote Commitment: Flexible What You'll Do Bring a software project you personally own — a side project, a tool, an open-source library, or something you've been meaning to finish Build features, fix bugs, refactor code, write docs, or do whatever your project needs — using an AI coding assistant At each step, compare two versions of the assistant's response, choose the better one, and write a brief explanation of your reasoning Work in your own environment, on your own schedule, with your own tools Who You Are A developer with a software project you personally own, stored in a git repository Comfortable working in the terminal and with git-based workflows Running macOS, Linux, or Windows with WSL2 Able to write clear, honest evaluations — you'll explain your choices in a few sentences Self-motivated and reliable when working independently Open-source maintainers are especially welcome What's Eligible Software projects that you personally and solely own Open-source projects with an approved license If your project has other maintainers, mention it in your application — we'll confirm eligibility What's Not Eligible Work owned by an employer, client, university, company, or startup Projects under NDA AI model training or evaluation projects; ML infrastructure Security exploit tooling Projects that process other people's personal data Good to Know Before starting, you'll sign short contributor terms and we'll approve your project Transcripts of your coding sessions are used to improve AI models and cannot be withdrawn after submission — this covers sessions only, not the rest of your codebase Your ratings and written feedback become part of the project's deliverables During sessions: no passwords, API keys, or other people's personal data — and you write your ratings yourself, without AI help Why You'll Love This Your project, your code — you keep full ownership of everything, including code the assistant writes for you Free AI tokens — your AI usage during sessions is fully covered, no subscription or API bill needed Paid to build what you'd build anyway — real compensation for real development work on your own project Fully remote and flexible — work from your own computer, on your own schedule Shape the future of AI-assisted coding — your expert judgment directly improves the next generation of developer tools Spots are limited — the first cohort is small and starting soon

Core Responsibilities

Build and improve a personally owned software project using an AI coding assistant, including developing features, fixing bugs, refactoring code, and writing documentation. Compare assistant responses, select the better one, and provide a brief written explanation of the decision.

Requirements

Applicants must own a software project stored in a Git repository and be comfortable using the terminal and Git-based workflows on macOS, Linux, or Windows with WSL2. They should be self-motivated, reliable, and able to write clear evaluations; eligible projects must meet the stated ownership and licensing requirements.
