About The Role We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Data Engineer to join our dynamic team supporting the IQVIA Patient Finder product. This pivotal role involves steering the technical direction of our data pipeline and data warehouse infrastructure, ensuring the platform's robustness, scalability, and reliability. As a Lead Data Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining end-to-end data solutions that facilitate secondary use of healthcare data, linking patients to clinical trials, research studies, and quality assessments. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including product managers, AI/ML specialists, and healthcare professionals to shape the data architecture, implement best practices, and drive continuous improvement. Your leadership will also extend to mentoring engineering colleagues, fostering a culture of high-quality engineering, and ensuring the delivery of scalable, maintainable solutions aligned with business goals. Qualifications Extensive hands-on experience in Python development, focusing on scalable and production-grade solutions Proven expertise designing, developing, and maintaining ETL/ELT data pipelines using orchestration frameworks such as Prefect, Airflow, Luigi, or Dagster Strong experience with data transformation tools like dbt within modern analytics ecosystems Experience working with Databricks and optimizing large-scale data pipelines Advanced SQL skills with practical experience in RDBMS like Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or similar Experience building and managing cloud-based data platforms, warehouses, and Lakehouse architectures Demonstrated leadership in guiding development teams and providing architectural guidance Knowledge of data quality, lineage, observability, governance, and performance tuning best practices Familiarity with DevOps practices including version control, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure-as-code Excellent communication skills to articulate complex technical concepts to diverse stakeholders Ability to work effectively in agile teams and self-organizing environments Based in Europe, preferably near Amsterdam, Netherlands Responsibilities Lead the end-to-end design, development, and deployment of the data platform, including pipelines and data warehouses, ensuring high quality and performance Standardize data engineering patterns to improve maintainability, reduce operational overhead, and enhance platform reliability Drive platform evolution through continuous improvement initiatives, including automation, testing, and documentation Coordinate with Product and Engineering teams to refine requirements, plan delivery timelines, and prioritize work based on business value and technical dependencies Implement release strategies, validation protocols, and risk management practices to ensure seamless updates and data integrity Mentor and coach data engineering team members, supporting their technical growth and professional development Collaborate with QA teams to increase test automation, coverage, and pipeline validation Work with AI/ML teams to integrate data components into broader product ecosystems, including search and machine learning pipelines Promote engineering best practices, responsible AI development, and data governance standards across the team Communicate technical concepts effectively to stakeholders, ensuring alignment on project goals and technical solutions Benefits Opportunity to work on impactful healthcare projects that improve patient outcomes Collaborative and innovative work environment with a focus on professional growth Flexible working arrangements including remote, hybrid, or office-based options Exposure to cutting-edge technologies in data engineering, AI, and healthcare data standards Participation in cross-functional teams including developers, medical experts, and ML engineers Competitive compensation package and benefits tailored to regional standards Equal Opportunity IQVIA is committed to fostering an inclusive and diverse workplace. Core Responsibilities

Lead the design, development, deployment, and ongoing improvement of the data platform, including pipelines and data warehouses, while ensuring quality, performance, reliability, and data integrity. Guide and mentor the engineering team, coordinate delivery with product, engineering, QA, and AI/ML teams, and promote consistent engineering and governance practices.

Requirements

Requires extensive hands-on Python experience and expertise building production-grade ETL/ELT pipelines, using orchestration and transformation tools, Databricks, SQL, and cloud data platforms. Also requires technical leadership, architectural guidance, knowledge of data quality and governance practices, DevOps experience, and strong communication and collaboration skills.
