Purpose

  • As Senior Safety & Loss Prevention Engineer, you safeguard SBM FPSO and Turret designs by ensuring major hazard risks are identified, assessed, and controlled throughout the project lifecycle, from concept to commissioning and operations support. The role provides technical leadership on safety-in-design, translating regulatory, class and client requirements into practical design solutions and ensuring timely closure of safety actions to deliver safe, compliant and operable facilities.

Responsibilities

  • You lead and/or coordinate the Safety & Loss Prevention (SLP) scope on FPSO projects during FEED, EPCI and brownfield phases, ensuring inherently safer design principles are consistently applied.
  • You plan, facilitate and close out risk reviews and safety workshops such as HAZID, HAZOP and SIL, including action tracking and verification of timely closure.
  • You define, prepare and review key SLP documentation such as safety concepts, safety plans, fire control plans, hazardous area classification deliverables and safety layouts.
  • You specify, engineer and verify fire and explosion risk control measures, including active and passive fire protection systems and their integration into the overall design.
  • You manage and technically challenge third-party safety studies (e.g. Fire and Explosion Risk Assessment and QRA), controlling scope, schedule, quality and integration of outcomes into project decisions.
  • You provide functional safety input where required, ensuring safety requirements are properly captured, implemented and monitored through change control.
  • You interface with clients, class societies, yards and vendors on safety-related topics and support site activities such as 3D model reviews, redlining, as-built verification and resolution of safety punch items.
  • You apply recognized SLP and process safety tools and mentor colleagues to continuously improve safety performance and engineering quality across projects.

Education

  • Engineering degree at BSc or MSc level (e.g. Chemical, Mechanical, Process or Safety Engineering) or equivalent technical qualification.

Experience

  • 5 to 10 years of relevant experience in Safety & Loss Prevention engineering, preferably within offshore oil and gas projects (FPSO, FLNG or similar facilities), across FEED and EPCI phases.
  • Practical experience with safety loss prevention and process safety methods and software such as HAZID, HAZOP, SIL, PHAST, Flaresim, Pipenet, Vessfire, BowTie, CFD tools or equivalent.
  • Strong team spirit with clear, structured communication skills in a multidisciplinary and multicultural environment.
  • Ability to interface effectively with clients, class societies, shipyards, vendors and third-party consultants.
  • Autonomous and pragmatic, with a constructive mindset and sound engineering judgement.
  • Strong analytical skills, capable of translating risk assessments into practical design solutions.
  • Proactive, curious and motivated to improve safety-by-design practices and share knowledge within the team.
