Senior ABAP Developer (Freelance)
Key Skills
Job Description
As Senior ABAP Developer, you'll bring your expertise to a high-impact SAP project within Customer & Digital's Central Client Management. Join a Scrum team for a defined period to help deliver robust, high-quality solutions across SAP ERP and SAP BP, making a direct and lasting difference to how NN serves its customers.
What you are going to do
You join a Scrum project team within CCM as a Senior ABAP Engineer, brought in to strengthen delivery on Project Anti Money Laundering Regulation (AMLR), a key initiative within our SAP ERP / SAP BP landscape. For the duration of the assignment, you combine deep technical expertise with a hands-on, getting-things-done mentality, designing and building solutions that meet Project AMLR's scope and deadlines, all within the constraints of a live, mission-critical SAP environment.
You're expected to contribute from day one, bringing seniority to technical design decisions and pairing closely with the existing engineering team. You also make sure your work and decisions are well documented, enabling a smooth handover to the permanent team once your engagement ends.
You'll work closely with the product owner, tech lead and fellow engineers in a collaborative, ownership-driven Scrum environment, lending your expertise to the project for its duration.
Key responsibilities:
- Design, build and deliver ABAP solutions within the project's SAP ERP / SAP BP scope, working confidently within a complex, live SAP landscape
- Bring senior technical judgement to the team: uphold clean code principles, lead peer reviews, and strengthen automated checks across the codebase
- Translate business requirements into robust technical solutions together with the Product Owner, Tech Lead and QA engineers within the Scrum team
- Provide technical guidance and hands-on mentoring to the project team, and ensure your solutions and decisions are well documented to enable a smooth handover at the end of the engagement
- Look beyond SAP by considering the ecosystem around it (e.g. WSO2, Databricks, Splunk), applying that view where it improves the project's end-to-end flows
What we offer you
Our people are the driving force behind our organisation. We value the knowledge and expertise you bring. We believe that your temporary commitment can take our organisation to a higher level. We offer you:
- Competitive hourly rate depending on your knowledge and experience
- start date: 1st October, 2026 and 12 months
- Hybrid way of working, partly from home and partly from the office
- International working environment with loads of knowledge sharing
Who you are
You are a seasoned, senior ABAP developer who thrives when dropped into an existing team and can add value from day one. You bring strong analytical skills, craftsmanship, and a drive to deliver high‑quality, working solutions within a defined project scope and timeline. You're comfortable operating as an external specialist, integrating quickly into a multidisciplinary Scrum team, working independently with minimal ramp-up, and bringing an outside perspective on how systems around SAP can elevate the landscape.
You bring:
- Senior-level ABAP development experience with S4-HANA environments and DevOps practices
- Solid knowledge of SAP ERP and SAP BP specifically (SAP CRM knowledge is a plus)
- Experience developing REST API's
- A keen eye for quality, with experience in structured and maintainable coding
- A pragmatic, delivery-focused mindset: able to work within the constraints of a live, complex SAP landscape and adapt quickly to a project's priorities
- Curiosity and an open mind toward integrations and surrounding technologies (WSO2, Databricks, Splunk; experience nice to have, not required)
- Experience working in a Scrum/Agile environment, and comfortable working on a fixed-term/contract basis
Who you will work with
You become part of a Scrum project team within CCM, working alongside experienced developers, functional experts, and operations specialists. The team values an open and supportive culture and is continuously improving its way of working.
We balance build and run responsibilities, meaning you collaborate daily with colleagues to deliver new features while keeping our critical SAP systems stable.
