Role Description The Manager HSE Centre of Expertise is a full‑time, on‑site role based in IJmuiden, focused on driving best‑in‑class health, safety, and environmental practices across the site and supporting global initiatives. This role oversees the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of HSE policies, standards, and procedures, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements and Tata Steel’s sustainability and Net Zero objectives. Day‑to‑day responsibilities include leading HSE risk assessments, reviewing incident reports, guiding accident investigations, and monitoring corrective and preventive actions. The manager will coordinate and deliver HSE training programs, mentor operational teams, and partner with leadership to embed a strong safety culture and occupational health focus in all processes. The role also involves analyzing HSE performance data, preparing reports for senior management, and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to adopt innovative, compliant, and efficient HSE solutions. Qualifications Strong expertise in Health & Safety and Environment Health and Safety (EHS), with the ability to design, implement, and monitor comprehensive HSE management systems. Knowledge of Occupational Health principles, including risk identification, exposure control, and promotion of worker well‑being in industrial environments. Proven experience in Accident Investigation, root cause analysis, and implementation of effective corrective and preventive measures. Demonstrated ability to design, deliver, and evaluate HSE Training programs for diverse operational and managerial audiences. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline; relevant professional certifications (e.g., NEBOSH, ISO 45001/14001 auditor) are an advantage. Experience in heavy industry or process manufacturing, preferably steel or metals, with familiarity in European HSE regulations and standards.
Core Responsibilities
Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of site HSE policies and systems, including risk assessments, incident investigations, corrective actions, training, and occupational health initiatives. Analyze HSE performance and report to senior management while partnering with operational teams and stakeholders to strengthen safety culture and support global sustainability and Net Zero objectives.
Requirements
Requires strong HSE expertise, including occupational health, risk management, accident investigation, root cause analysis, and the ability to deliver training and implement effective corrective measures. A bachelor’s or master’s degree in a relevant discipline is required; experience in heavy industry or process manufacturing and familiarity with European HSE regulations are sought, while NEBOSH and ISO auditor certifications are advantageous.
