As a Software Architect, you’ll play a key role in designing and evolving the technology behind our measurement platform and applications. You’ll work hands-on across the full solution, from designing software architecture and server-side development through APIs and security layers to the multiplatform and native Android/iOS applications, bringing features through to production. You’ll contribute to technical direction, improve our existing systems and build new capabilities using modern technologies and AI-assisted engineering tools. About you Responsibilities Design and deploy software architecture across Beatgrid's platform and mobile applications, translating product requirements into scalable and maintainable solutions. Work hands-on across the full technology stack, including backend and platform services, APIs, databases and mobile applications - directly contributing to implementation rather than operating only at an architectural level. Own features end-to-end - from understanding requirements and domain modelling through architectural design, backend implementation, mobile development, testing, deployment and ongoing system, software and application maintenance. Own the connection between the platform and mobile applications, ensuring that features and changes are designed and implemented across the relevant layers, from backend services and APIs through to Android and iOS applications. Develop and maintain backend services and APIs, with a strong focus on clean architecture, security, scalability, performance, reliability and cost efficiency. Contribute to Android and iOS development, working with Kotlin, Swift and Kotlin Multiplatform, including the existing mobile codebase and UI where required. Work closely with the CTO, Chief Architect and engineering teams to make architectural decisions, establish technical direction and continuously improve the platform. Maintain and improve the existing codebase, identifying technical gaps, performance bottlenecks and opportunities to simplify and automate development. Use modern AI-assisted engineering tools to accelerate development, automate repetitive engineering work and improve the quality and maintainability of software. Drive improvements in performance, scalability, reliability and infrastructure cost Contribute to code reviews, testing, CI/CD and production support, ensuring reliable software throughout its lifecycle. Qualifications Skills and experience Strong experience in software architecture, system design and domain modelling, with the ability to translate business and product requirements into robust technical solutions. Strong backend engineering experience - ideally with Java/ Kotlin and Spring Boot, APIs, relational databases and distributed/cloud-based systems. Experience designing and building scalable and maintainable backend/platform services, deploying and operating applications in cloud environments. Strong understanding of API design, data structures, and distributed systems Experience working across application layers (Android/iOS development using Kotlin, Swift and Kotlin Multiplatform) and integrating backend/platform services with mobile applications. Strong understanding of performance optimisation, concurrency, scalability and reliability across backend and client applications. Experience with modern engineering practices including automated testing, CI/CD, code reviews and production support. Experience using AI-assisted development tools and automation to improve engineering productivity and software quality. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to balance technical quality, business requirements, performance and cost. Excellent communication and the ability to work independently while collaborating closely with product, engineering and architecture teams. Core Responsibilities

Design and implement scalable software architecture and platform services, owning features end-to-end across backend systems, APIs, databases, and Android and iOS applications. Guide technical direction and improve performance, reliability, security, infrastructure efficiency, testing, deployment, and ongoing production support.

Requirements

The role requires senior-level experience in software architecture, system design, domain modelling, and backend engineering, ideally with Java or Kotlin, Spring Boot, APIs, relational databases, and cloud-based distributed systems. Candidates should also have experience integrating backend services with Android and iOS applications, applying modern engineering practices, and using AI-assisted development tools.
