At DHL Global Forwarding in Hoofddorp, we make sure import shipments from all over the world enter the Netherlands smoothly and efficiently. As a Customer Relations Specialist, you are the primary point of contact for our customers and the essential link between every party involved in the import process. From the moment a shipment is airborne to the moment it reaches the customer, you’re in control. You liaise with customers, carriers, airlines, customs, colleagues across the globe, and your own on-site team. You proactively track shipments, identify irregularities, and resolve issues the moment they arise. Because import operations run 24/7, we’re looking for someone who’s flexible and willing to work in rotating shifts, including occasional weekend shifts. Your Responsibilities Managing import shipments from A to Z: from arrival notification to final delivery Daily communication with customers, carriers, airlines, customs, and internal teams Proactively informing customers about shipment status, lead times, and special situations Administrative updates in our system (CW1) and ensuring accurate billing Processing rates, handling claims, and identifying improvement opportunities Maintaining strong customer relationships and spotting commercial potentials Why You’ll Enjoy Working in Hoofddorp You’ll be close to Schiphol Airport—the beating heart of import logistics Dynamic shift work, including occasional weekends—no two days are the same A supportive, close knit, international team that grows together Plenty of learning and growth opportunities—airfreight experience is a plus, not a requirement Possibility to work hybrid in the long run Lots of freedom to take initiative and improve processes You Bring Customer focus, eagerness to learn, and a drive to grow Flexibility to work in rotating shifts and occasionally in weekends The ability to multitask and set clear priorities Strong Dutch and English communication skills At least MBO-level work and thinking Preferably experience in logistics or airfreight—or strong motivation to learn (Please note that a valid Security Clearance (VGB) is required for this position.) Core Responsibilities

Manage import shipments from arrival notification through final delivery, coordinating with customers, carriers, airlines, customs, and internal teams. Track shipments, communicate status and delays, maintain accurate system and billing records, process rates and claims, and identify opportunities to improve service and customer relationships.

Requirements

The role requires customer focus, willingness to learn, flexibility for rotating shifts and occasional weekends, and the ability to multitask and prioritize. Applicants should have at least MBO-level education and strong Dutch and English communication skills; logistics or airfreight experience is preferred but not required, and valid security clearance is required.
