About The Role As an Infra Lifecycle and Build Specialist, you will make an impact by owning the full lifecycle of IT infrastructure across manufacturing plant environments — from hands-on hardware deployment and configuration to structured decommissioning. You will be a valued member of the IT Infrastructure team and work collaboratively with on-site plant teams, technical stakeholders, and third-party vendors to ensure reliable and consistent technology operations across critical production sites. In This Role, You Will Rack, stack, cable, and configure Dell workstations and rack-mount servers in manufacturing plant IT rooms and data center environments, including ESXi host setup and SAN Storage configuration Perform physical and remote hard drive wipes as part of the decommissioning process; execute lift-and-shift of hardware to decommission palettes and coordinate vendor pick-up Administer and troubleshoot Microsoft Windows environments (Windows 7, Windows 10, Windows Server 2012/2016/2019) and manage VMware infrastructure including vSphere, vCenter, and ESXi clusters Build and image Windows 10 workstations via PXE or USB, manage device inventories, and support software installation and uninstallation across plant-segmented networks Travel up to 15% of the time to manufacturing plant sites — including potential overnight stays and air travel Work model At Cognizant, we strive to provide flexibility wherever possible, and we are here to support a healthy work-life balance through our various wellbeing programs. What you need to have to be considered 7+ years of hands-on experience in Microsoft Windows Systems Administration (Windows 7, Windows 10, Windows Server 2012/2016/2019), with demonstrated ability to technically troubleshoot system issues on the Windows platform Extensive knowledge of VMware fundamentals including vSphere, vCenter, and ESXi cluster administration, with hands-on experience using Dell workstations and rack-mount servers in a data center or manufacturing plant environment Proven experience with racking, stacking, cabling, and physical setup of server and workstation equipment, including configuration of ESXi hosts and SAN Storage Strong experience with Windows Imaging (PXE or USB), infrastructure support activities on plant-segmented networks, and management of small device inventories Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to coordinate across multiple stakeholders from various job functions and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences; physical capability to lift up to 40 lbs (±18 kg) and willingness to travel up to 15% These will help you stand out Prior experience supporting a plant-based or data center environment Build Room experience Familiarity with segmented OT/IT manufacturing network environments We're excited to meet people who share our mission and can make an impact in a variety of ways. Core Responsibilities
Deploy, configure, troubleshoot, and manage Windows workstations, rack-mount servers, VMware infrastructure, and storage across manufacturing plants and data center environments. Handle hardware lifecycle activities, including imaging, inventory management, secure drive wiping, decommissioning, and coordination with vendors.
Requirements
Requires at least 7 years of hands-on Windows systems administration experience, extensive VMware knowledge, and practical experience deploying and configuring Dell hardware, ESXi hosts, and SAN storage. Candidates should also have Windows imaging and plant-network support experience, strong communication skills, the ability to lift up to 40 pounds, and willingness to travel up to 15%.
