LFPSE User Researcher and Reporting Lead
Key Skills
Job Description
The National Patient Safety Team is seeking an experienced and collaborative User Researcher and Reporting Lead to support the continued development and improvement of the Learn from Patient Safety Events (LFPSE) service. This is an opportunity to combine user research, stakeholder engagement and data-quality expertise in a nationally significant digital service that supports safer care across the NHS. The role is offered as a Band 7 secondment or fixed term contract until 31st March 2027. As the LFPSE User Researcher and Reporting Lead, you will work with NHS organisations, care providers, commissioners and system suppliers to improve access to LFPSE, strengthen the quality of patient safety data and ensure users’ needs inform the ongoing development of the service. You will plan and deliver both generative and evaluative user research, including recruitment, interviews, moderation, usability testing, analysis and reporting. You will turn qualitative and quantitative evidence into clear, actionable insights and service requirements, working closely with product, design, development, data and patient safety colleagues. You will also support organisations and Local Risk Management System suppliers to connect to LFPSE and submit high-quality data. This will include advising on data standards and system mapping, contributing to compliance testing, monitoring data quality and uptake, resolving issues, and developing practical guidance, training and reporting for a wide range of users and stakeholders. NHS England has a wide range of statutory functions, responsibilities and regulatory powers. These are focused on supporting the wider NHS to deliver high quality care, as well as doing those things that are best done once for the whole NHS. Our staff bring expertise across clinical, operational, commissioning, technology, data science, cyber security, software engineering, education, and commercial specialisms — enabling us to design and deliver high-quality NHS services. In March 2025, the Government announced that NHS England and the Department of Health and Social Care will increasingly merge functions, ultimately leading to NHS England being fully integrated into the department. If you currently work within the NHS and if successful at interview, we will initiate an Inter Authority Transfer (IAT) via the Electronic Staff Record (ESR). This retrieves key data from your current or previous NHS employer to support onboarding, including competency status, Continuous Service Dates (CSD), and annual leave entitlement. You may opt out at any stage of the process. Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend, on average, at least 40% of their time working in our offices. Staff recruited from outside the NHS will usually be appointed at the bottom of the pay band. We cannot offer visa sponsorship for any vacancies.
