Seismic Processing & Imaging Geophysicist
Key Skills
Job Description
Company Description Divert2Explore OÜ is dedicated to advancing geoscience, exploration, and innovation with a strong focus on geothermal energy and natural resource management. The company delivers cutting-edge solutions in geophysical exploration, combining earth science expertise with robust risk assessment and data-driven approaches. By bridging scientific research and real-world applications, Divert2Explore supports sustainable development and efficient use of resources. The team collaborates with industry partners and researchers to address complex geological challenges and shape the future of exploration. The Seismic Processing & Imaging Geophysicist Intern will support the development and testing of a new seismic data processing platform for geothermal energy and subsurface exploration applications. The role will focus on applying, testing, and validating seismic processing workflows within the platform, including data pre-processing, filtering, velocity analysis, quality control, imaging, and seismic attribute generation. The intern will work with real or benchmark seismic datasets to assess workflow performance, identify technical issues, compare processing results, and provide feedback for improving the platform. Key activities will include testing different processing sequences and parameters, documenting workflows and results, preparing test datasets, evaluating seismic images and attributes, and supporting the integration of processing outputs with other geoscience workflows. The intern will also contribute to technical documentation, visualizations, demonstrations, and presentations of the platform and its capabilities. This position provides an opportunity to work at the intersection of seismic geophysics, software development, workflow automation, and geothermal exploration, contributing directly to the development of an applied geoscience technology platform. Qualifications Foundational knowledge of geophysics and seismic theory, including wave propagation, reflection seismology, seismic processing, and subsurface imaging. Understanding of common seismic processing workflows, such as filtering, deconvolution, velocity analysis, stacking, and migration. Experience or interest in working with seismic processing software, open-source tools, or computational geophysics platforms. Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with the ability to work with large geophysical datasets. Basic programming or scripting skills in Python, or similar languages. Ability to test, compare, and evaluate different processing workflows and parameters. Ability to interpret seismic images and attributes in a geological context. Good technical documentation and communication skills, including preparing figures, test reports, and presentations. Enrolment in or recent completion of a degree in Geophysics, Geology, Earth Sciences, Physics, Computer Science, or a related field. Interest in geothermal energy, subsurface exploration, geoscience technology, and data-driven workflows. Ability to work independently in a remote environment while collaborating effectively with a multidisciplinary and international team. A strong interest in testing new technologies, identifying technical issues, and providing practical feedback to improve geoscience workflows and software.
Core Responsibilities
Test and validate seismic processing workflows on real or benchmark datasets, including pre-processing, filtering, velocity analysis, quality control, imaging, and attribute generation. Document results, evaluate images and attributes, identify technical issues, and provide feedback and supporting materials to improve the platform and integrate its outputs with other geoscience workflows.
Requirements
Applicants should have foundational knowledge of geophysics and seismic theory, familiarity with common processing workflows, analytical skills, and basic Python or similar scripting ability. They should be enrolled in or have recently completed a relevant degree, be interested in geothermal exploration and geoscience technology, and communicate effectively while working independently and collaboratively.
