Introduction to the job ASML develops, maintains, and evolves powerful motion control platform that are used across a wide range of machines. These platforms interface with a broad variety of hardware components, including digital IO boards, CPUs, FPGAs, and embedded devices, using multiple communication technologies. In addition to maintaining legacy control platforms that remain critical for long-term production continuity, ASML is developing a next-generation control architecture that is prerequisites for meeting increasing performance demands, resolving hardware end‑of‑life challenges, and enabling cost-of-goods reduction. As a software developer - embedded software, your mission is to develop and maintain embedded software and platform-level solutions that enable these control architectures to meet the ever-growing performance, reliability, and scalability demands of ASML machines. Role and responsibilities As a software developer - embedded software, you are, together with your team, responsible for extending and maintaining embedded and platform software used across multiple ASML machines, software releases, and generations. Within ASML, the sector Development & Engineering is responsible for the specification, design, integration, qualification, and sustaining of all ASML products. In this role, you will: Extend and maintain embedded and platform-level software used by ASML motion control systems Develop and maintain both new-generation platforms and legacy systems that must remain operational for many years Design and implement low-level software components, including operating system, kernel, and driver-level functionality where required Contribute to hardware/software co-design, working closely with hardware teams on CPU-, FPGA-, and PCIe-based architectures Translate high-level system and customer requirements into robust, high-quality software solutions Take ownership of the functionality you deliver and ensure it solves real customer and system needs Actively contribute to improving software quality, performance, and long-term maintainability, and reducing technical debt Collaborate closely with other software, hardware, and system teams across ASML Play an active role in growing the team in both technical and non-technical aspects Education and experience Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD degree in software engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, embedded systems or equivalent At least 5 years of experience in developing embedded software in a high-tech, multidisciplinary environment Experience working in large code bases, combining new developments with legacy software Strong experience with embedded Linux and/or real-time operating systems Strong experience with low-level system programming, including C and C++ Extensive knowledge of real-time control systems and system-level performance characteristics Experience with hardware/software integration, including interaction with CPUs, memory, and peripherals Experience with performance optimization and debugging in complex embedded systems, preferably x86 based Skills Strong analytical skills and a strong drive to deepen technical expertise Quality-oriented mindset, with attention to reliability, performance, and long-term maintainability Ability to translate complex system-level problems into sustainable software solutions Strong communication and collaboration skills in a multidisciplinary environment Understanding of Agile software development principles and practices Ability to proactively contribute to technical discussions and mentor others where appropriate This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the United States Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. 730, et seq.). Requirements

Requires a bachelor's, master's, or PhD degree in software engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, embedded systems, or an equivalent field, plus at least five years of embedded software development experience. Candidates should have strong embedded Linux or real-time OS, C/C++, low-level programming, real-time control, hardware integration, and complex-system debugging experience.
