We’re looking for a Senior System Engineer who wants to take ownership of that foundation and evolve it further. Someone who combines deep technical expertise with a proactive mindset and the drive to build things the right way. What you’ll be doing This role goes far beyond “keeping the lights on.” You’ll be shaping the future of our infrastructure, ensuring that our systems remain secure, reliable, and future-proof. You’ll have the freedom to set the standard: technically, operationally, and strategically. Your responsibilities Lead technical roadmap of system engineering team Evolve and optimise our on-prem platform to maximise performance, reliability and security Collaborate with development how ‘our’ service and amplify their work Define, document and enforce clear technical standards, playbooks and procedures Oversee local network and development environments for smooth engineering workflows Proactively detect and resolve system bottlenecks before they become problems Automate repetitive tasks to increase speed and consistency Our tech stack Kubernetes (container orchestration) ArgoCD (Gitops) Ceph (distributed storage) Linux (Debian/Ubuntu) Proxmox (virtualisation) Docker (containerization) Prometheus & Grafana (monitoring/metrics) ElasticSearch (logging/search) FortiGate (security/firewall) About the team BaseNet is part of Blinqx, a fast-growing tech group that connects specialist software companies across different industries. Within BaseNet, we develop SaaS solutions tailored for the legal market, software that helps law firms manage cases, clients and communication seamlessly. As Senior System Administrator you will be part of the engineering team, reporting directly to the Head of Engineering of BaseNet. What you bring 10+ years of experience managing and operating production infrastructure Strong knowledge of Linux (Debian/Ubuntu), Kubernetes and Docker Experience managing MySQL database clusters Solid understanding of networking, distributed storage and security The ability to explain complex systems in simple terms A proactive mindset: you don’t wait for problems to appear; you prevent them Strong sense of ownership and pride in building and maintaining robust systems Experience in a SaaS or B2B environment is a strong plus Cloud and AI experience is a plus, but the core currently is physical and local What we offer A high-impact role within a mission-critical SaaS environment Hybrid working: partly from our Amsterdam office, partly remote Freedom to shape the infrastructure and define technical direction A collaborative, international team culture focused on excellence26 holiday days and 4 Blinqx BreaQX days, extra days off spread throughout the year Laptop and phone allowance

Core Responsibilities

Lead the system engineering technical roadmap and evolve the on-premises platform to improve performance, reliability, and security. Establish technical standards and procedures, support development workflows, identify and resolve bottlenecks, and automate repetitive tasks.

Requirements

Requires 10+ years managing and operating production infrastructure, strong Linux, Kubernetes, and Docker knowledge, and experience managing MySQL database clusters. Candidates should understand networking, distributed storage, and security, and demonstrate proactive ownership and the ability to explain complex systems clearly; SaaS or B2B experience is a plus.
