Intro Compton Technologies is looking for a hands-on COO to help build the organization and to lead the development of a breakthrough semiconductor tool. About Us Compton Technologies is an ambitious deep-tech startup, founded by experienced entrepreneurs. We are building a new generation of semiconductor metrology tools enabled by a breakthrough X-ray source. We are addressing need for new metrology solutions resulting from the next generations of complex 3D semiconductor device architectures. We are currently developing our MVP in collaboration with a network of specialized technology partners and preparing the company for its next phase of growth. Today, our team consists of seven people and is expected to grow to around 30 over the next two years. The Role The role consists of two equally important parts: Deliver the MVP: Build and run a tightly managed development program involving our internal team and external partners. Build the organization: Create the R&D and operational organization, team structure and ways of working needed for next stage of growth. You will work closely with the CEO and CTO. The CTO owns the technical direction and integrity of the system. You will ensure that the people, resources, partners and execution model are in place to deliver it. Key Responsibilities Deliver the MVP Own the planning and execution of the MVP development program, and manage milestones, dependencies, budgets and ownership Coordinate the internal team and major external development partners Establish a strong operating rhythm for planning, reviews, risk management and decision-making Work with the CTO and senior engineers to balance performance, technical risk, time and cost Build and run the operational organization Build the R&D and operational team required to develop the MVP and be ready for the next phase Build a culture of ownership, discipline, transparency and collaboration Implement a sustainable ICT infrastructure that supports the key processes in the operation Own operational planning, budgets and resource allocation, and take hiring and outsourcing decisions Take ownership of operational and organizational issues outside the CEO’s and CTO’s core responsibilities Candidate Requirements Must-have Experience leading technically complex development projects with external partners, demanding timelines and multiple dependencies Experience in a start-up, scale-up or similarly dynamic environment Strong ownership and accountability Strong team-building and people-leadership skills MSc or equivalent level of thinking in engineering, physics, applied science, business or a related field Great-to-have Experience in semiconductor equipment Experience with complex mechatronics, particle accelerators or laser systems Familiarity with systems engineering, requirements management and configuration management Exceptional candidates at different career stages are encouraged to apply. You may be a seasoned operational leader or an emerging leader with 5 to 10 years of highly relevant experience and the potential to grow quickly into the full COO mandate. Requirements
Candidates must have experience leading technically complex development projects with external partners, preferably in a startup or similarly dynamic environment, along with strong ownership and team leadership. An MSc or equivalent level of thinking in engineering, physics, applied science, business, or a related field is required; relevant experience in semiconductor equipment, complex mechatronics, particle accelerators, or laser systems is advantageous.
