Location: Amsterdam Description The Director of Engineering serves as the Head of Engineering for our Amsterdam office, leading multiple teams in designing and delivering new and enhanced products. This role is heavily focused on strategy, people leadership, and maintaining the strong, empathetic culture that defines our team. You will manage development projects from initial design through testing, while providing a clear vision and decisive technical direction across the department. You will operate as the primary escalation point and unblocker for technical and operational challenges and collaborate closely with a globally distributed workforce of full-time employees and contractors across overlapping time zones. Responsibilities Direct and oversee software engineering activities in the development, release, and maintenance of full-stack SaaS applications in hosted environments. Manage project goals, contribute to product strategy, and provide technical leadership for multiple development teams Maintain and nurture a positive, empathetic culture by deeply caring for your people, organizing team-building activities, and keeping a solutions-oriented mindset Act as the primary escalation point for the Amsterdam team, rapidly unblocking technical issues and making critical, decisive technical choices. Manage team performance proactively, addressing technical gaps, overseeing resource allocation, and implementing necessary corrections to ensure high throughput and optimal quality. Effectively collaborate with and lead a globally distributed team of both full-time employees (FTEs) and contractors, ensuring strong alignment across overlapping US and international time zones. Recruit, manage, train and mentor your staff to be the best that they can be Work with cross-functional teams to develop business and user requirements Participate in design reviews, code reviews, and architectural decisions, ensuring strong alignment across teams in overlapping time zones. Skills, Knowledge & Expertise Qualifications Entrepreneurial spirit and demonstrated ability to achieve goals in an innovative, fast-paced environment At least 5 years in a technical leadership role, and 10+ years developing production SaaS code for mission critical services Strong technical acumen with the ability to be highly decisive on technical and architectural decisions. Exceptional people management skills with a focus on empathy, adding organizational structure, and fostering a supportive culture. Ability to drive a culture of quality, personal accountability, and strong relationships with internal and external colleagues and clients Expert in Agile & DevOps principles, and experience with an AI-driven SDLC. Preferred experience with large connected devices and distributed systems Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science and/or Engineering Skills Hands-on development of enterprise-level software products Hiring and team-building CI/CD/DevOps with automated testing Incremental design/refactoring Story-driven project/program management Leading multiple SW development teams Enterprise architecture Why Work for Us? Core Responsibilities

Lead multiple engineering teams in designing, developing, releasing, and maintaining full-stack SaaS products, while setting technical direction and contributing to product strategy. Manage and mentor staff, maintain a supportive team culture, resolve escalated technical and operational issues, and coordinate delivery across globally distributed teams.

Requirements

Candidates need at least five years in technical leadership and more than ten years developing production SaaS code for mission-critical services, along with strong technical judgment and empathetic people-management skills. The role also calls for Agile and DevOps expertise, experience with an AI-driven software development lifecycle, and a bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science and/or Engineering; experience with connected devices and distributed systems is preferred.
