Job Description

As a Project Leader at VDL ETG Technology & Development (T&D), you are responsible for highly innovative, complex and multidisciplinary development projects in a high tech environment. You carry full end to end responsibility for advanced mechatronic modules and systems — from project initiation and concept development through engineering, industrialization, and customer delivery. You take ownership from the initial customer request through development, prototyping, industrialization, and preparation for volume manufacturing. The technologies involved are state‑of‑the‑art, and the products are often first‑of‑a‑kind, with extremely tight tolerances, ultra‑clean requirements, and complex system interactions. VDL ETG T&D develops and industrializes high‑precision mechatronic modules for leading global OEMs. You build and maintain a strong relationship with these customers, often working with international stakeholders, diverse engineering cultures, and different project management and development methodologies. You manage projects with a multidisciplinary team of highly skilled experts in mechanical design, mechatronics, electronics, software, precision engineering, manufacturing engineering, and supply chain. A solid technical background and experience in product development projects are essential. You are responsible for: Delivering high‑precision mechatronic modules from initiation and concept development through engineering, prototyping, industrialization, and customer acceptance — while managing the triple constraint (scope, time, cost). Setting up the project structure, governance, and execution strategy. Leading and coaching the project team in close collaboration with the system architect. Monitoring and controlling project progress (costs, risks, planning, quality) and taking action or escalating when required. Building a strong and sustainable relationship with our VDL ETG factory Managing stakeholders: external customers and suppliers, as well as internal stakeholders across engineering, operations, quality, and management. Applying the project management and development processes of VDL ETG. Contributing to continuous improvement of project management capabilities within the department. Jouw kracht Strong professional project management skills. A degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field. At least 5 years of experience as a project leader in a high‑tech development and/or manufacturing environment, leading multidisciplinary teams. Knowledge of Design for Excellence (DfX) and experience with high‑precision mechatronic systems. A team builder who can inspire, motivate, and align people. Proactive, analytical, creative, and comfortable taking ownership. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written. Core Responsibilities

Lead complex, multidisciplinary development projects for high-precision mechatronic modules from initiation and concept development through engineering, prototyping, industrialization, and customer acceptance. Establish project governance and execution plans, lead teams, manage scope, schedule, cost, quality, and risks, and coordinate customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.

Requirements

Requires a degree in mechatronics, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, physics, or a related field, along with at least five years of project leadership experience in a high-tech development or manufacturing environment. Candidates should have strong project management skills, knowledge of Design for Excellence and high-precision mechatronic systems, and the ability to lead teams and communicate effectively.
