Job Description

Royal IHC is looking for a Sensing & Sensor Fusion Engineer to strengthen our Technology & Innovation department. In this role, you will develop sensing capabilities that enable the next generation of intelligent maritime equipment and autonomous systems.

From understanding equipment health and vessel motion to enabling autonomous operations, everything starts with collecting the right data from the real world. You will help determine what to measure, how to measure it, and how to turn sensor data into reliable insights and actions.

You will work with technologies such as cameras, radar, lidar, inertial sensors, fibre-optic sensing and positioning systems. Your work covers the entire process, from sensor selection and integration to data processing, sensor fusion, testing and operational validation.

Working alongside experts in mechanical engineering, control systems, AI, data science and autonomous systems, you will contribute to innovative solutions that shape the future of maritime technology.

Why join us?

  • Work with real sensors on full-scale maritime equipment.
  • Develop solutions for autonomous systems, predictive maintenance and operational performance.
  • Combine engineering, sensing and data science in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Explore and implement emerging sensing technologies.
  • Contribute to a strategic sensing capability used across multiple IHC products and markets.
  • Enjoy the freedom to bring your own ideas and innovations.

Your responsibilities

As a Sensing & Sensor Fusion Engineer, you will:

  • Analyse sensing requirements for complex maritime applications.
  • Select, evaluate and prototype sensor solutions.
  • Develop sensor fusion, signal processing and state-estimation methods.
  • Integrate sensors into mechanical, electrical and control architectures.
  • Support AI and data-driven applications through high-quality sensing data.
  • Perform laboratory testing, prototyping and full-scale validation.
  • Analyse sensor performance, reliability and robustness in demanding environments.
  • Contribute to applications such as autonomous operations, object tracking, launch & recovery and condition monitoring.

Your profile

You are technically curious, analytical and eager to learn. While you do not need expertise in every sensing technology, you have strong fundamentals and enjoy working across disciplines.

You have:

  • A Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, Systems & Control, Applied Physics (or a related field).
  • Knowledge of sensors, measurement technology and sensor fusion.
  • Experience or affinity with signal processing, state estimation or multi-sensor systems.
  • Interest in AI, computer vision, data science and autonomous systems.
  • Experience with Python, MATLAB or similar tools.
  • A practical mindset and interest in testing and validation.
  • Strong communication skills in English (Dutch is a plus).

Royal IHC offers you:

  • A salary between €3837 and €5930 gross per month, plus 8% holiday allowance.

  • Plenty of time off: 40 vacation days for a full-time position, with the option to buy or sell additional leave.

  • A profit-sharing scheme that lets you share in Royal IHC’s success.

  • Flexible working: A home office allowance of €2.45 per day + a one-time payment of €750 to set up your workspace.

  • Travel allowance of €0.21 per kilometer for the days you commute to the office.

  • A solid pension plan through PME.

  • Room to grow: Numerous internal career opportunities and a training budget + access to our IHC Academy to support your development.

  • Health and energy: Unlimited access to our in-house gym (in exchange for the sustainable employability day).

  • Royal IHC takes care of things you’d rather not worry about, but that are still important—such as disability insurance, partner pension, and the option to have additional healthcare costs reimbursed through our Social Fund.

About IHC Technology

IHC Technology drives innovation, R&D and product development across Royal IHC. Together with a multidisciplinary team of engineers and specialists, you will develop technologies for dredging, offshore energy, mining, defence and other complex maritime operations.

Join us and help our maritime systems see, measure, understand and act on the world around them.

Core Responsibilities

You will analyze sensing requirements, select sensor solutions, and develop sensor fusion and signal processing methods for maritime applications. Additionally, you will integrate sensors into mechanical and control architectures while performing testing and validation for autonomous and monitoring systems.

Requirements

Candidates must hold a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, Systems & Control, or Applied Physics. You should have strong fundamentals in sensor technology, signal processing, and experience with tools like Python or MATLAB.

Benefits

  • Holiday allowance
  • Profit-sharing scheme
  • Home office allowance
  • Travel allowance
  • Pension plan
  • Training budget
  • Gym access
  • Disability insurance
  • Partner pension
  • Healthcare reimbursement
