Job Description
About Neno Neno is defining the next era of AI-native financial services. We merge best-in-class financial technology; banking, payments, invoicing, accounting, payroll and tax with our own expert advisory services team. Our team is made up of ambitious, unapologetically curious, slightly crazy ex-founders, fintech operators, AI engineers, creatives and corporate finance experts from the Big 4, from all over the world. If you thrive in a high-commitment, high-reward culture and want the autonomy to deliver your best work, this will be the most exciting team you ever join. Neno is backed by Firstminute Capital, Motive Partners and angels from Miro, Coinbase, Mollie, Juni, Deel, Hugging Face & PayPal. The Role We are looking for a VP of Product to join Neno's leadership team and own the product vision, strategy and execution that will define how we serve European SMEs for the next decade. This is one of the most consequential hires Neno will make: the person in this role will determine what we build, in what order, for whom and how those decisions compound into a product that is genuinely irreplaceable for the businesses that rely on it. You will report directly to the CEO and sit alongside the VP Engineering and VP Accounting as one of three functional leaders driving Neno's growth. Your remit spans the full product surface: AI-powered accounting workflows, embedded banking and payments infrastructure, invoicing, payroll, tax compliance, and the advisory layer that sits above all of it. You will own the roadmap across four markets, the Netherlands (Beachhead) with future expansion into the UK, US & beyond. Neno's product thesis is specific and ambitious: The global SME market is trapped between inadequate DIY software and expensive traditional accounting firms deserve something fundamentally better, a system that gets smarter with every transaction, automates the routine and amplifies the expert. Your job is to make that thesis real in every sprint, every feature decision and every interaction a customer has with the product. The right VP of Product for Neno is analytically rigorous, deeply curious about AI and financial services, and experienced enough to make hard prioritisation calls without needing consensus from everyone in the room. You are as comfortable in a customer discovery interview as you are in an architecture review or a future board strategy session. And you understand that at our stage, shipping the right thing quickly matters more than shipping a perfect thing slowly. What This Role Is Not This is not a role for someone who wants to manage a mature roadmap, run quarterly planning cycles and present updates to an established leadership team. There is no inherited product strategy to steward. You will define it and then build the function, the processes and the team that executes against it across four European markets. Building a company like Neno is fun. We celebrate the wins, learn from the losses and never repeat the same mistakes. This is what it takes to win, and we only want to win. What Impact You Will Have Own Neno's product vision and roadmap across accounting, banking, payments, invoicing, payroll, tax and the AI layer that powers all of them Build and lead the product management function: hiring, structuring and developing a team of PMs as Neno scales Drive the Agentic AI automation layer of Neno's core workflows, measurably reducing the manual effort our accountants spend per client, quarter over quarter Define how AI is embedded in Neno's product surface: not as a chatbot or a feature, but as the operating system underneath every financial and transactional workflow Own the product metrics that matter to the business: activation, retention, expansion revenue, NPS and the funnel from onboarding to long-term value Be the voice of the customer inside the engineering and AI teams and the voice of engineering reality inside commercial conversations Shape Neno's product expansion strategy as we deepen in the Netherlands and scale into Belgium, Italy and Spain Responsibilities Product Vision & Strategy Define and own Neno's multi-year product vision in partnership with the CEO, grounded in customer reality, competitive positioning and the capabilities of our AI and engineering team Translate the 'Broken Middle' thesis into a concrete, sequenced product strategy: what we build first, what we defer, and why Own the product roadmap across all markets and surface areas, with clear prioritisation rationale and measurable outcomes attached to every major initiative Anticipate how regulatory change, AI capability shifts and competitor moves affect our product strategy and adjust proactively rather than reactively Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the European SME accounting and financial services landscape: the regulations, the workflows, the tools and the frustrations Discovery & Customer Insight Build and maintain a continuous discovery practice: customer interviews, session recordings, support ticket analysis, churn conversations and in-product behavioural data Develop precise, validated problem definitions before committing engineering resources, you know the difference between a customer request and a customer need Own the ICP definition and segmentation framework across Neno's markets, ensuring the roadmap reflects the highest-value customer profiles in each Partner with the Customer Engagement team to surface friction points in onboarding, activation and retention and translate them into product improvements with measurable impact Commission and synthesise market research on competitor product development, pricing and positioning across the Netherlands, Belgium, Italy and Spain Execution & Delivery Work shoulder-to-shoulder with the VP Engineering to run a tight, outcome-oriented delivery process, sprint planning, milestone tracking, delivery and trade-off decisions and retrospectives Write precise, unambiguous PRDs and user stories that give engineering everything they need to build without unnecessary back-and-forth Own QA sign-off on product before it ships, the standard is set by what the customer experiences, not what passes a test suite Define and track success metrics for every major initiative: you measure outcomes, not output Manage a product backlog with the discipline to say no, protecting the team's focus is as important as identifying the right things to build AI Product Development Define the product requirements for Neno's AI systems: what they need to do, at what accuracy, under what conditions, in language that AI engineers can build against Own the automation roadmap: identify which accounting, tax and payroll workflows should be automated next, in what order and to what standard Work with the AI engineering team to design human-in-the-loop workflows that maintain client trust while pushing automation rates higher Build a product intuition for what AI can and cannot do reliably in financial services — and make roadmap decisions that reflect that understanding honestly Define the feedback loops between client outcomes and model improvement: how does a correction by an accountant become a better system next month? Cross-functional Leadership Partner with Sales and Marketing to ensure the product roadmap and commercial positioning are tightly aligned, new features should support pipeline, not distract from it Work with the Head of Tax and VP of Accounting to ensure the product meets the compliance and quality standards required for regulated financial services across four markets Serve as the primary product voice in investor conversations, board meetings and due diligence processes, you can explain our product strategy and its commercial logic clearly Define the product input to Neno's pricing and packaging decisions: what bundles, what tiers, what expansion paths Team & Function Building Hire, structure and develop the product management team as Neno's headcount and product surface grow Establish the product operating model: how discovery, prioritisation, delivery and measurement work at Neno Build the documentation, tooling and PM standards that make the function scalable beyond one person Mentor and elevate the Associate PM, design and future PM hires, you develop people, not just products What We Are Looking For Experience 12+ years in product management, with at least 4 years in a product leadership role at a high-growth fintech scale-up. Proven track record owning a product roadmap end-to-end from strategy through discovery, delivery and outcome measurement. Background in B2B Fintech, Accounting SaaS is a hard requirement. Experience building or scaling an AI-native or AI-augmented product, not just adding AI features to an existing product. Experience taking a product into multiple international markets, navigating regulatory, language and workflow differences is a significant advantage. Product Skills Exceptional at discovery: you consistently identify the right problems to solve before committing to solutions Precise spec writer: your PRDs are clear, complete and leave no room for misinterpretation Strong quantitative instincts: you define success metrics upfront, track them honestly and change course when the data says to. Experienced with modern product tooling: Linear for delivery, Claude for design collaboration, Mixpanel, Amplitude or equivalent for analytics, and Notion or for documentation Comfortable with SQL and data analysis, you can pull your own data when you need to, rather than waiting for an analyst. AI Product Expertise You understand how LLMs, RAG systems and agentic workflows behave in practice, not just in theory. You can write product requirements for AI systems with enough precision that an AI engineer can build against them without a dozen clarifying questions. You have genuine intuition about where AI creates reliable value and where it fails, and you make product decisions that reflect that honestly. You have thought carefully about human-in-the-loop design, output validation and how to build customer trust in AI-powered workflows. Domain Knowledge Working familiarity with SME financial operations: bookkeeping, VAT, payroll, invoicing and year-end close, you do not need to be an accountant, but you need to understand the workflows you are automating Knowledge of the European SME software landscape: accounting tools, banking infrastructure, ERP and the competitive dynamics between them Familiarity with regulated financial services product considerations: data privacy, audit trails, compliance workflows and the implications of getting them wrong Leadership & Communication Confident, clear communicator at every level: customer interviews, engineering stand-ups, leadership team reviews and investor presentations Strong at influencing without authority, you align engineering, commercial and accounting teams around shared priorities without needing to pull rank Direct and decisive: you make hard calls, communicate the rationale clearly and move on without relitigating closed decisions You hire people better than yourself and create an environment where great product thinking is rewarded regardless of seniority What We Give You 💻 The latest equipment & software licenses to run as many agents as you need 🤠 A seat at the leadership table, you will work directly with the CEO, VP Engineering and VP Accounting to shape Neno's product trajectory across Europe. 💸 A highly competitive salary + meaningful equity. This is a founding leadership role and the package reflects that. 🏢 Hybrid working with a minimum of 3 days per week in our Amsterdam office 🏝 25 days of annual leave + public holidays in the country where you are based 🥳 Regular socials and company off-sites in questionably exotic destinations 🚀 The opportunity to define what AI-native financial services looks like for 26 million European SMEs, from the product up What You Are Signing Up For Before applying for this role, carefully think about what you are committing to.
