The role Neurotechnology is moving quickly across brain-computer interfaces, neuromodulation, neuroimaging, consumer neurotech, and the broader infrastructure supporting the field. At Neurofounders, we track this landscape through reporting, market research, and ecosystem intelligence for founders, researchers, investors, and operators. We’re looking for a Market Intelligence & Research Intern to join part-time and help build out the research infrastructure behind the platform. The core project will be a major expansion of the Neurofounders startup and investor databases. This includes identifying companies and investors, improving classification, connecting investment activity to companies, and helping rethink how this information is presented. Alongside this, you’ll contribute to broader market research, newsletters, mini-reports, and occasional content and growth projects. This role is particularly suited to an MSc student who wants to understand neurotechnology as an industry, not only as a scientific field. What you will do You’ll work closely with Dominic, Founder & Editor, across market intelligence, research, and platform development. Market Intelligence & Mapping (60%) Overhaul and expand the Neurofounders startup database Identify emerging and overlooked companies across the neurotechnology ecosystem Develop a clearer taxonomy for technologies, applications, stages, and markets Rebuild the Neurofounders investor map and connect investors to relevant portfolio companies Research funding rounds, investors, company activity, and market positioning Help develop the structure and UX of the next generation of the startup and investor maps Maintain clean, structured company and investment data over time Research & Editorial Intelligence (25%) Track developments across BCI, neuromodulation, neuroimaging, digital biomarkers, and adjacent categories Conduct research for newsletters, market analyses, and thematic mini-reports Identify interesting funding, company, technology, and market trends Content & Growth Support (15%) Help turn research into charts, social content, and other formats Support occasional LinkedIn and newsletter projects Contribute ideas for growing Neurofounders across social and other distribution channels Assist with ad hoc research, publishing, or platform projects What you will gain Hands-on exposure to the global neurotechnology startup and investment ecosystem Ownership over visible industry resources used by founders, investors, researchers, and operators Experience building structured market intelligence from fragmented industry information A deeper understanding of neurotech companies, technologies, funding, and market dynamics Opportunities to contribute to published reports, articles, and data projects A front-row seat to how a niche media and intelligence platform is built and scaled Who we look for MSc student, or strong advanced BSc student, in neuroscience, biomedical engineering, neurotechnology, cognitive science, life sciences, innovation, business, data, or a related field Strong research and analytical skills Genuine interest in neurotechnology, startups, and emerging science-driven markets Highly organised and comfortable working with structured datasets Independent, proactive, motivated, and detail-oriented Strong written English Bonus if you have experience with market research, startup databases, investment research, Airtable/Notion, data visualisation, Figma, or no-code tools You don't need to know every company in neurotechnology. Curiosity, structured thinking, and the ability to research independently are more important. Track neurotechnology developments and contribute research to newsletters and reports, while supporting charts, social content, and occasional growth or platform projects.
Requirements
The role is intended for an MSc student or a strong advanced BSc student in a relevant field, with strong research and analytical skills and a genuine interest in neurotechnology, startups, and emerging markets. Candidates should be organised, proactive, independent, detail-oriented, and have strong written English; experience with market research, investment research, databases, data visualization, Figma, or no-code tools is a bonus.
