EdgeConneX is seeking a visionary Principal Data Center Mechanical Engineer to define the mechanical architecture for our next-generation global data center standard. In this high-impact role, you will research and evaluate current and emerging cooling technologies, translate innovation into pragmatic, future‑proof designs, and set clear, scalable standards that balance build complexity, cost, and schedule. You’ll author and maintain design guidelines, templates, and best practices that our internal project engineering teams and external EPC partners will use worldwide. Key Responsibilities Define Mechanical Architecture: Develop and standardize mechanical designs for the global EdgeConneX data centers, ensuring efficiency, scalability, and sustainability. Research & Innovation: Stay ahead of industry trends and community initiatives, evaluating new cooling technologies, energy efficiency strategies, and mechanical systems. Standards Development: Create, maintain, and update design standards, guidelines, and templates to provide clear direction for internal and external stakeholders. Collaboration: Work closely with internal project engineering teams and external EPC partners to ensure alignment and successful implementation. Solution-Oriented Approach: Deliver flexible solutions that meet diverse customer requirements while maintaining consistency with EdgeConneX standards. Stakeholder Engagement: Communicate ideas effectively, establish actionable plans, drive consensus, and secure buy-in across teams. Qualifications Education: Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent). Experience: Minimum 10 years in large-scale data center mechanical design. At least 5 years of experience on international projects. Technical Expertise: Deep understanding of HVAC systems, cooling technologies, energy efficiency strategies, and emerging mechanical innovations. Soft Skills: Strong communication and leadership skills. Ability to navigate complex challenges and propose multiple viable solutions. Proven track record of driving consensus among diverse stakeholders. Preferred Attributes Familiarity with global standards and compliance requirements. Experience collaborating with EPC firms and managing large-scale deployments. Passion for innovation and continuous improvement in data center design.

Core Responsibilities

Define and standardize mechanical architectures for global data centers, evaluating emerging cooling technologies and developing scalable, efficient, and sustainable designs. Create and maintain design standards and templates, and collaborate with engineering teams, EPC partners, and stakeholders to align requirements and drive successful implementation.

Requirements

Requires a master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent, at least 10 years of large-scale data center mechanical design experience, and at least 5 years working on international projects. Candidates should have deep expertise in HVAC, cooling technologies, energy efficiency, and emerging mechanical innovations, along with strong communication, leadership, and consensus-building skills.
