Your job Wageningen University & Research (WUR) is a leading university in the field of education and research and invests heavily in digitisation. For our software development team, we are looking for a medior software developer. As a medior software developer at WUR, you contribute to the development and improvement of software that supports education, research and university operations. You take responsibility for your own work, learn from experienced colleagues and tackle more complex technical challenges along the way. You have the ability to work independently on assigned issues, but also to know when to seek advice. You are willing to learn, experiment and further develop your technical skills Software development is changing rapidly, particularly with the rise of AI-assisted development and applications that leverage AI. We are looking for developers who are curious about these developments and can use new tools thoughtfully, without losing sight of the quality of the code, security, maintainability and the needs of our users. As a medior developer, you are expected to critically assess AI-generated output, understand the code you commit, and develop your ability to assess the quality, safety, and suitability of that code for the issue at hand. You will be part of our central IT department with about 200 colleagues. Together, we deliver modern IT for students, researchers and staff, with a focus on digitalisation, security, data and cloud. Designing and developing scalable, secure and maintainable software systems Translating requirements and user needs into practical technical solutions Taking responsibility for assigned functionalities and components, from deployment to testing and delivery Participate in code reviews and contribute to discussions about software design and quality Collaborate with colleagues to solve problems and improve existing systems Contribute to automated testing, documentation, monitoring and continuous improvement Adopting and applying existing architecture and development practices Experimenting with new technologies, including AI-assisted development tools, while critically assessing output Collaborate with developers, researchers, teachers, students, and other stakeholders within the university Your qualities HBO Bachelor in IT / Computer Science / Information Systems (or similar) Several years of professional experience in software development Good knowledge of software engineering principles and development methodologies Strong proficiency in .NET, Blazor, Microsoft Azure. Fluent English, basic knowledge of Dutch Understanding the importance of testing, security, documentation, and maintainability Interest in the way AI software development is changing and willingness to explore AI-assisted development tools Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with colleagues from diverse technical and professional backgrounds We offer Wageningen University & Research offers excellent terms of employment (https://www.wur.nl/en/jobs/conditions-of-employment). Depending on your experience, we offer a salary of at least € 3,554 to a maximum of € 5,698 for a full working week of 36 hours according to the Collective Labor Agreement Wageningen Research (scale 10). An appointment of 32 hours is negotiable for this role. When it comes to your contract, we initially offer a one-year contract with the intention of converting it to an indefinite contract. Core Responsibilities

Design, develop, test, and deliver scalable, secure, and maintainable software that supports university education, research, and operations. Collaborate with developers and university stakeholders on requirements, code reviews, architecture, AI-assisted development, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

A bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a similar field, along with several years of professional software development experience, is required. Candidates should have strong .NET, Blazor, and Microsoft Azure skills, understand software engineering and quality practices, communicate effectively in English, and have basic Dutch knowledge.
