About the Role: The Primary Plant Transformer Technician is responsible for the safe installation, assembly, maintenance, testing support, oil processing, commissioning support, and refurbishment of power transformers and associated primary plant equipment. The role ensures all work is completed in accordance with company procedures, client specifications, and relevant safety standards while maintaining the highest quality and productivity levels. The responsibilities align closely with your existing transformer team structure and transformer operations documentation. Key Responsibilities: Carry out transformer assembly, installation, maintenance, repair, and dismantling activities. Assist with transformer positioning, tanking, fitting of accessories, radiators, bushings, OLTCs, cooling systems, and associated equipment. Support transformer oil filling, filtration, vacuum treatment, and oil sampling activities. Assist with electrical and mechanical inspections before energisation. Support commissioning teams during testing and energisation activities. Read and interpret technical drawings, assembly manuals, procedures, and specifications. Complete installation records, quality documentation, check sheets, and punch lists. Ensure compliance with RAMS, permit systems, and site safety requirements. Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a safe and serviceable condition. Report defects, quality concerns, and safety observations promptly. Support outage and emergency response works as required. Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and lessons learned reviews. Provide mentoring and guidance to apprentices and junior technicians. Qualifications Technical qualification in Electrical, Mechanical, Electromechanical, or Power Engineering discipline. Experience working on power transformers, substations, or heavy electrical equipment. Ability to read engineering drawings and technical documentation. Valid manual handling and working-at-heights certification (or willingness to obtain). Full driving licence and flexibility to travel. Preferred Experience 2-5 years experience in transformer installation or maintenance. Experience with: Transformer assembly Oil processing and filtration Vacuum filling operations Transformer testing support HV substation environments GIS/AIS installation activities Knowledge of transformer construction and components. Experience working on projects from 33kV to 400kV. Indoor and outdoor work in substations, industrial facilities, and live construction environments. May require working away from home on rotational assignments. Participation in outage, commissioning, and weekend work as required. Core Responsibilities

Assemble, install, maintain, repair, dismantle, and refurbish power transformers and associated primary plant equipment, including supporting oil processing and commissioning activities. Follow safety and quality requirements, complete work documentation, maintain equipment, report issues, and support outage response and junior technicians.

Requirements

A technical qualification in electrical, mechanical, electromechanical, or power engineering is required, along with experience working on power transformers, substations, or heavy electrical equipment. Candidates should be able to interpret engineering drawings, hold or be willing to obtain relevant safety certifications, and have a full driving licence with flexibility to travel; 2–5 years of transformer installation or maintenance experience is preferred.
