About The Role As a Data Engineer at Zonneplan, you will play a pivotal role in enhancing our data infrastructure to support our mission of a sustainable energy future. You will be responsible for developing and maintaining our central data platform, ensuring data security and accessibility across teams. Your work will lay the technical foundation for our upcoming machine learning platform, enabling advanced analytics and AI-driven insights. Collaborating closely with engineering, trading, optimization, and AI teams, you will translate data requests into scalable, self-service solutions that empower colleagues to work autonomously with data. Your contributions will directly impact operational efficiency, decision-making speed, and the overall effectiveness of our energy systems. Qualifications Minimum 1-2 years of experience as a Data Engineer or in a similar role Proficiency in SQL and data modeling techniques Experience in building and managing reliable data pipelines Strong understanding of data quality, security, and governance Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders Proactive mindset with a focus on continuous improvement Experience with tools such as Dagster, Snowflake, Postgres, Kafka, dbt, DltHub, Airbyte, Kubernetes, or AWS is advantageous Familiarity with data mesh and self-service analytics concepts is a plus Comfortable working in a collaborative environment and adopting new tools quickly Responsibilities Develop and enhance the organization-wide data platform to ensure reliable and secure data availability Design, build, and monitor data pipelines and models that support various business needs Implement data quality checks and access controls to safeguard data integrity and security Translate organizational data requests into sustainable, scalable solutions Lay the technical groundwork for the ML platform, collaborating closely with development teams Automate recurring tasks and processes using AI tools like Claude Code Identify opportunities for improvement in data processes and implement them proactively Ensure data infrastructure aligns with best practices in security and compliance Participate in cross-functional teams to support data-driven decision making and innovation Benefits Competitive salary ranging from €3.500 to €5.000 gross per month, based on experience 25 vacation days with options to purchase additional days Reiskostenvergoeding (travel allowance) Personal keuzebudget for sports, groceries, or other personal needs Access to Zonneplan Academie for ongoing professional development Advanced tooling, including a Claude Code Max 20x license or equivalent Clear career growth pathway from medior to senior Data Engineer and eventually to Tech Lead Data Collaborative work environment with engineers, data specialists, and product teams Participation in meaningful projects that contribute to a sustainable energy future Equal Opportunity Zonneplan is an equal opportunity employer. Core Responsibilities

Develop and maintain a reliable, secure organization-wide data platform, including data pipelines, models, quality checks, and access controls. Translate business data needs into scalable self-service solutions, lay the groundwork for the machine learning platform, and proactively improve and automate data processes.

Requirements

The role requires at least 1–2 years of data engineering or similar experience, proficiency in SQL and data modeling, and experience building reliable data pipelines. Candidates should understand data quality, security, and governance, communicate technical concepts clearly, and be proactive; experience with the listed data and cloud tools is advantageous.
