Job Description

Purpose of the Role Reporting to the Group Director IT Security & Compliance, the Group Senior Azure Cloud and Integration Engineer combines Azure cloud engineering, platform operations and enterprise integration engineering. The role designs, builds, operates and continuously improves BME’s Azure cloud capabilities and Integration Platform, enabling secure, reliable and scalable connectivity across the Group. The role is responsible for resilient, secure and cost-effective cloud and hybrid services, while supporting infrastructure harmonisation and consolidation across BME. It contributes to the BME Cloud Center of Excellence and the BME Architecture Board, helping define cloud and integration standards, patterns and roadmaps. The role provides technical leadership for integrations and acts as the third-level escalation point for OpCo integration specialists, supporting the development of local integration capabilities through coaching, reusable technical assets and knowledge sharing. Key Tasks and Responsibilities Design, operate and improve Azure cloud and hybrid infrastructure, covering availability, performance, scalability, security, resilience and cost management. Support BME’s cloud strategy, including Azure Landing Zone capabilities, infrastructure harmonisation, cloud migration, modernisation and legacy remediation. Develop automated deployments and operational tooling using Azure DevOps, CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code, preferably Bicep. Drive cloud operational excellence through automation, monitoring, FinOps, AIOps, self-service, incident management, disaster recovery and business-continuity practices. Design, build and operate integrations between ERP systems, business applications, SaaS platforms, cloud services and external partners. Own and evolve the BME Integration Platform using Azure-native services such as Azure API Management, Azure Service Bus, Logic Apps, Functions, Key Vault and Application Insights. Apply standard integration patterns, deployment templates and reusable components to enable secure, monitored and scalable “build once, deploy many” integrations across OpCos. Design and operate secure APIs, including authentication, authorisation, versioning, throttling, lifecycle management, logging, monitoring and error handling. Participate in the BME Cloud Center of Excellence and Architecture Board, representing cloud and integration engineering and contributing to technical standards, reference architectures and roadmaps. Identify and remediate technical debt, architecture risks, vulnerabilities, operational weaknesses and single points of failure. Provide L3 support to OpCo integration specialists for complex incidents, design issues, performance problems, connectivity, identity, API, messaging and deployment challenges. Coach and enable OpCo integration specialists through technical guidance, reusable blueprints, runbooks, standards and a community of practice. Apply secure-by-design, least-privilege and zero-trust principles across cloud infrastructure, APIs and integrations; work with Information Security teams to embed relevant controls. Ensure solutions meet applicable security, data-protection, operational and architecture requirements. Key Functional Competencies Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure, including cloud infrastructure, hybrid environments, identity, security, governance, monitoring and backup. Strong enterprise-integration engineering experience, including API design, API lifecycle management, messaging, orchestration, event-driven architecture and observability. Proven expertise in Azure API Management, Azure Service Bus, Logic Apps, Azure DevOps, Key Vault and Application Insights. Strong understanding of API security, including OAuth2, authentication, authorisation, certificates, secrets management, throttling and access-control patterns. Experience with CI/CD, deployment automation and Infrastructure as Code, preferably Bicep. Ability to operate business-critical cloud and integration services using incident, problem, change and release-management practices. Experience providing senior technical leadership and L3 support in a federated, multi-OpCo environment. Ability to define and apply reference architectures, engineering standards and reusable technical patterns. Strong communication, analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to coach technical teams and explain complex topics clearly. A pragmatic, collaborative and continuous-improvement mindset, with a strong focus on quality, security, reliability and knowledge sharing. Education and Experience At least five years of hands-on experience in Azure cloud engineering, platform engineering, integration engineering, infrastructure engineering or IT operations within an international or multi-site environment. Demonstrable experience operating both Azure cloud infrastructure and cloud-native integration solutions. Practical experience with API Management, Service Bus and Logic Apps; experience with Azure Functions, App Services and Application Insights is highly desirable. Strong experience with Azure DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code and automated deployment practices. Experience with cloud governance, Azure Landing Zones, hybrid-cloud operations, security controls and operational monitoring. Experience with cloud migration, integration modernisation, infrastructure consolidation or digital-transformation programmes is an advantage. Relevant Microsoft Azure certifications are strongly preferred, such as Azure Administrator, Azure Developer, Azure Solutions Architect, Azure DevOps Engineer or Azure Security Engineer. Proficient in English, written and spoken; additional European language skills are an advantage. The position is located at BME HQ based Schiphol, Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Core Responsibilities

Design, operate, and continuously improve Azure cloud and hybrid infrastructure and the enterprise Integration Platform, ensuring secure, reliable, scalable, and cost-effective services. Establish reusable integration standards and architectures, provide L3 support and technical coaching to OpCo teams, and contribute to cloud governance and operational excellence.

Requirements

Requires at least five years of hands-on experience in Azure cloud, platform, integration, infrastructure engineering, or IT operations, with practical experience in Azure API Management, Service Bus, Logic Apps, Azure DevOps, CI/CD, and Infrastructure as Code. Strong cloud security, governance, monitoring, integration, and technical leadership capabilities are expected; relevant Microsoft Azure certifications are strongly preferred, and candidates must already live in the Netherlands.
