About The Role As a Data Engineer at Zonneplan, you will play a vital role in building and enhancing our central data platform, which serves as the backbone for our data-driven initiatives. Your primary responsibility will be to develop reliable data pipelines, ensure high data quality, and make data securely accessible across various teams. You will lay the technical foundation for our upcoming machine learning platform, enabling advanced analytics and AI applications. Working within the Team Infra, you will collaborate closely with engineering, Trading & Optimization, GenAI, and other development teams to translate data requests into sustainable self-service solutions. Your work will directly impact how quickly data requests are handled and how autonomously teams can work with data, ultimately contributing to Zonneplan's goal of becoming a fully data- and AI-driven organization. You will also be instrumental in implementing access controls, data quality checks, and monitoring systems to maintain data integrity and security. Your contributions will support the company's broader mission of accelerating the energy transition through smarter, data-enabled energy systems. Qualifications Minimum 1-2 years of experience as a Data Engineer or in a similar role Proficiency in SQL and data modeling Experience in building and managing reliable data pipelines Strong understanding of data quality, security, and reliability principles Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders Experience with data tools such as Dagster, Snowflake, Postgres, Kafka, dbt, Airbyte, Kubernetes, or AWS is a plus Familiarity with data mesh or self-service analytics is advantageous Comfort with AI tools and automation, including experience with tools like Claude Code, is preferred Willingness to quickly learn new tools and technologies Critical thinking regarding data governance, quality, and safety Responsibilities Design, develop, and maintain scalable and reliable data pipelines and models Monitor data workflows, identify issues proactively, and resolve them to prevent impact on analytics or ML applications Ensure data security and implement access controls and quality checks for responsible data usage Translate organizational data requests into sustainable, self-service solutions Lay the groundwork for the ML platform, building the necessary technical infrastructure Collaborate closely with development teams to align platform capabilities with their needs, from model training to deployment Leverage AI tools such as Claude Code to automate tasks, improve workflows, and enhance documentation and monitoring Share insights and learnings actively with the team to foster continuous improvement Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement them independently Stay updated with emerging data technologies and incorporate them into the data ecosystem Benefits Competitive salary ranging between €3,500 and €5,000 gross per month, based on experience and skills 25 vacation days, with options to purchase additional days Reiskostenvergoeding (travel allowance) Personalized keuzebudget for sports, groceries, or other personal needs Access to Zonneplan Academie for professional growth and development State-of-the-art tooling, including AI licenses and automation tools Opportunity to work in a collaborative environment with a clear impact on sustainability and energy transition Career growth from medior to senior Data Engineer and potential progression to Tech Lead Data Equal Opportunity Zonneplan is an equal opportunity employer. Core Responsibilities

Design, maintain, and monitor scalable data pipelines and models, ensuring data quality, security, access controls, and reliability. Build foundational infrastructure for the machine learning platform and collaborate with development teams to deliver sustainable self-service data solutions and improve workflows.

Requirements

Requires at least 1–2 years of experience in data engineering or a similar role, proficiency in SQL and data modeling, and experience building reliable data pipelines. Candidates should understand data quality, security, and reliability, communicate technical concepts clearly, and be willing to learn new tools; experience with the listed data technologies and AI tools is advantageous or preferred.
