Centerdata develops survey software and questionnaires, as well as facilitates the fieldwork of several leading studies in the social sciences. These studies include the European Social Survey (ESS), the Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe (SHARE), European Values Study (EVS), and Growing Up in Digital Europe (GUIDE). Our Cross-national Survey Projects team facilitates the data collection of these projects, operating at the intersection of software development and survey research. We are seeking an enthusiastic Research Assistant who enjoys working collaboratively and delivering high-quality results, and thrives in a dynamic working environment. What you will be working on: As a Research Assistant, you will play an active role supporting the team and a range of cross-national survey projects. Working in a small, multidisciplinary team, you will develop expertise in complex survey systems and contribute to the software and questionnaire development process. You will also provide professional service desk support to participating countries and project partners, helping to ensure the successful implementation of the survey projects. Your tasks will include, among others: Service desk activities using a ticketing system, to provide operational support to our scientific partners and fieldwork agencies in different countries. Testing questionnaires and software tools. Helping with setting up survey platforms / fieldwork environments for international partners and fieldwork agencies. Conducting technical checks on translations and updating translations of questionnaires and software tools. Supporting the programming of questionnaires in our in-house developed questionnaire software. Processing and cleaning data according to the specified standards using R / SPSS Statistics. Managing user administration of data users. Preparing manuals, reports, and presentations. Providing briefings to international partners. What we are looking for: A detail-oriented professional with high quality standards, a curious mindset, and a flexible approach to new challenges. A relevant degree at the higher education level (e.g. a Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Information Technology, Social Sciences, Statistics, or equivalent). Experience with survey research. Experience with the programs SPSS Statistics, Stata, R, and/or Python. Knowledge of html, CSS, PHP, C#, JavaScript and/or TypeScript. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel). Good communication skills and ability to cooperate effectively in a team environment. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Basic communication skills in Dutch and a willingness to further develop Dutch language proficiency. While English is the working language within the team, the wider organisation operates in Dutch. Core Responsibilities

Support international cross-national survey projects through service desk assistance, questionnaire and software testing, survey platform setup, translation checks, and questionnaire programming. Process and clean data, manage user accounts, and prepare project documentation and briefings for international partners.

Requirements

A relevant higher-education degree in information technology, social sciences, statistics, or an equivalent field is required, along with survey research experience. Candidates should have experience with one or more of SPSS Statistics, Stata, R, or Python, strong English communication skills, basic Dutch communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with attention to detail.
