Accounting is no exception. At Aspyre, our goal is not to replace accountants, but to make them 4x more productive, allowing accounting firms to grow far beyond their current customer base without growing their headcount at the same pace. We do this by connecting to the software accountants already use and automating high-effort, low-revenue work. We combine auditable, deterministic software with AI, using each where it works best. Our current product is already being used by early customers. Now we're entering the next phase: turning it into a stable, fast and scalable platform that accounting firms can rely on every day. That’s where you come in. What you'll be working on As a Python Backend Developer at Aspyre, you'll work across the product, with a strong focus on our backend and platform architecture. You'll: Evolve our architecture into a scalable, production-ready platform. Build clear boundaries between our data/integration, business logic and output layers. Develop new functionality. Build and maintain integrations with accounting platforms and other external APIs. Design and optimize our PostgreSQL data layer. Improve performance, reliability and scalability. Turn real accounting workflows into robust software. Contribute to technical and architectural decisions. We care about engineering quality, but we're also a startup. That means understanding when something deserves careful engineering and when getting something into users' hands matters more. What we're looking for You have: Strong Python skills and a solid understanding of OOP. Experience building backend applications, APIs and services. Practical experience with databases, data modeling and query optimization. Experience with REST APIs and modern web frameworks such as FastAPI. A solid grasp of testing, debugging, version control and code review. The ability to translate business processes into technical solutions. The confidence to work independently while collaborating closely with others. A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience. Experience with React, AI, automation, fintech or accounting software is a plus. You must be able to work from our office in The Hague at least two days per week. Requirements

Candidates should have strong Python and object-oriented programming skills, experience building backend applications and APIs, and practical knowledge of databases, data modeling, and query optimization. They should be comfortable with REST APIs and frameworks such as FastAPI, testing and code review, translating business processes into technical solutions, and working independently and collaboratively; a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent practical experience is required.
