Welcome to Tap Electric. Tap is an e-mobility startup based in the heart of Amsterdam, connecting drivers to chargers for seamless car charging. We’re looking for an AI Engineering intern with a strong technical foundation and a genuine interest in applied AI. At Tap, you won’t just be playing with models in notebooks — you’ll work hands-on on production systems that directly impact our products and EV drivers. What you’ll be doing Improving Magic: help enhance our charger recognition and recommendation systems Developing Radar: support ML-driven fraud detection and anomaly detection Advancing Charge AI: build better models that predict charging session duration and energy usage, so we optimise our impact on the grid Working on our pipeline coding agents: help build and improve AI-powered coding agents that support our engineering workflows, automating parts of the development pipeline and helping us ship better software faster Working on our AI support systems: help develop AI-powered tools that enable us to provide faster and better customer service, from understanding customer questions to helping resolve issues more effectively Run experiments, validate results, and help move promising models toward production in proper pipelines Work closely with product + engineering to define problems, test solutions, and ship improvements About you You’re studying computer science, engineering, artificial intelligence or a similar technical degree You have a strong affinity with AI and machine learning, and you’re excited about applying it to real-world problems You’re comfortable working with data, code, and experimentation You understand that this role requires real coding ability — not just “vibe coding” You can write and debug code in a language like Python or C# You have experience or interest in one or more of: Neural networks Image processing / computer vision MLOps / model deployment workflows Nice to haves Experience building or deploying AI models beyond notebooks (APIs, pipelines, production environments) Familiarity with common AI tooling (e.g., PyTorch, Keras, TensorFlow, scikit-learn) Experience in fraud detection, recommender systems, or time-series prediction You’ve flirted with startups in the past and enjoy working in this environment About the job In-office role, 4–5 days per week Close collaboration with the product and engineering teams Focus on real problems, real data, real users Paid internship Bring your own laptop to work Calling all Tapstronauts We are looking for an astronaut. A bit more about Tap Tap was founded in late 2020 by two charging software veterans, Nico and Dan, who saw that the charging UX for EV drivers was broken. They bootstrapped their way to building 2 key products: a driver app that enables really simple payments on a huge network of chargers; and a platform for charger owners and installers to manage their chargers and collect payments. Tap is live in the Netherlands, Belgium and the UK with thousands of satisfied users. Core Responsibilities

You will develop and deploy AI models for charger recognition, fraud detection, and energy usage prediction to optimize grid impact. Additionally, you will build AI-powered coding agents and support tools to enhance engineering workflows and customer service.

Requirements

Candidates must be currently studying computer science, engineering, or a related technical field with strong coding skills in Python or C#. You should have a solid foundation in machine learning and a desire to apply AI to real-world production systems.
