Job Description
Are you an ambitious and experienced researcher with expertise in artificial intelligence and an interest in cardiovascular medicine? Excited to develop novel multimodal AI approaches combining medical imaging, clinical data, and genomics for improved cardiac diagnostics? Apply now! About The Project In this postdoctoral project, you will develop innovative multimodal AI frameworks to integrate diverse cardiovascular data sources. Your research will focus on combining imaging data (e.g., cardiac MRI, echocardiography), signals (e.g. electrocardiography, intracardiac signals), clinical measurements, molecular and genomic profiles to improve diagnostic accuracy and patient stratification in cardiovascular diseases. You will work on synthetic data generation techniques to improve multi-centre training while maintaining privacy, and develop methods to optimize cross-modal representations for enhanced predictive modeling. About The Role As a postdoctoral researcher, you will: Design and implement novel multimodal AI architectures for cardiovascular applications; Develop synthetic data generation methods to augment sparse modalities; Create frameworks for joint optimization of cross-modal representations; Validate models using clinical datasets in collaboration with cardiologists; Mentor PhD and MSc students and present findings at international conferences; Intention to apply for grants to expand our group, and potentially start your own research group. Profile You have a PhD in Computer Science, AI/ML, Biomedical Engineering, or related field; You demonstrate strong programming skills in Python and have experience with deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch (experience with high performance computing infrastructures is a plus); You have experience in medical image analysis (multimodal learning experience is a plus); You have a publication track record in top AI/ML or medical informatics venues such as NeurIPS, MICCAI, or SPIE Medical Imaging and/or in translational venues such as Nature portfolio journals (Nature Medicine, Nature Cardiovascular Medicine, npj Digital Medicine) ; Experience with clinical healthcare data systems is a plus. Our offer You will be employed by Amsterdam UMC Research BV. A contract for 12 months with the option to extend by mutual agreement Classification in salary scale 10, €3.724 to €5.867 gross for full-time employment (depending on experience). If you travel by foot, bicycle, or car, a mileage allowance of €0.21 per km applies (up to a maximum of 40 km one way by car). Do you prefer cycling? Take advantage of our good bike scheme. Pension accrual with BeFrank, a modern, comprehensible and fairly priced pension. Watch this video (https://youtu.be/QO6mgb9R-sI) with more information about joining Amsterdam UMC Research BV. About The Workplace You will collaborate with doctoral candidates, postdoctoral researchers, analysts, and clinical researchers conducting patient studies. We encourage active participation in the design and execution of ongoing research projects, with ample room for your own initiatives. Amsterdam UMC offers a position within an enthusiastic team where you can contribute to cutting-edge research in vascular medicine. You will work in Dr Fleur Tjong’s group (TjongLab) embedded in the Amsterdam Center for Computational Cardiology (https://computational-cardiology.nl/) under co-supervision prof. dr. Folkert Asselbergs at Amsterdam UMC, location AMC. Our department is highly interdisciplinary with informatics researchers working closely together with practicing cardiologists to advance the use of AI for personalised treatment. The ultimate goal is to be able to accurately predict and simulate the effect of the best possible treatment for a patient. We foster an open culture with generally accessible collaboration. Moreover, we strive for equal opportunities for everyone, meaning there is space for each individual's culture, background, ideas, and creativity. In our excellent network with top-tier AI-research groups (e.g. from ETH Zurich, Stanford, Heidelberg, University of Barcelona, Yale, University of Amsterdam), there are many opportunities for International collaborations. Amsterdam UMC Research BV supports non-profit scientific research. In doing so, we provide researchers with everything they need to excel. Our principal investigators (PIs) and project leaders offer support in the field of project management, finance and human resources. In medical scientific research projects, legal support is also provided. Let's meet During the publication period, applications will be handled continuously. If the vacancy is filled, it will be closed prematurely. If you have any questions about this position, please feel free to contact dr. Fleur Tjong, via [email protected]. A reference check, screening and hiring test may be part of the procedure. Read here whether that applies to you. If you join us, we ask you for a VOG (Certificate of Good Conduct). Internal candidates will be given priority over external candidates in case of equal suitability. Acquisition in response to this vacancy is not appreciated.
