Become the ecological conscience of Groenadvies Amsterdam

Groenadvies Amsterdam is a specialist in ecology and trees. We are a small, close-knit team within a larger, professional organisation. This combination allows our consultancy to grow steadily while maintaining a personal and hands-on approach.

What will you do?

As a Senior Ecological Advisor, you are much more than an advisor. You are the ecological expert within the team and an important sparring partner for colleagues, clients and project teams.

You divide your time between fieldwork, consultancy, project management and coaching colleagues. This variety is what makes the position so interesting.

Your responsibilities include:

• Conducting ecological quick scans, further ecological surveys and species inventories, and assessing the results;

• Advising on protected species, habitats and the Dutch Environment and Planning Act (Omgevingswet);

• Preparing activity plans, working protocols and ecological advice;

• Helping clients and design teams give biodiversity a meaningful place from the earliest stages of a project;

• Guiding junior and medior ecologists and supporting their professional development;

• Working with designers, project managers, permitting authorities and clients to identify and resolve ecological issues at an early stage;

• Maintaining relationships within your professional network and identifying opportunities to develop existing collaborations;

• Actively contributing to the further development of Groenadvies Amsterdam's ecological services;

One moment, you may be outside assessing a habitat. The next, you could be meeting with a municipality, permitting authority or designer. Afterwards, you might be discussing a complex ecological issue with your colleagues.

You will have a great deal of freedom in how you organise your work. Would you rather work from home for a day to complete a report? That's fine. Do you prefer being outside or working at project locations? That's fine too. As long as you deliver quality and results, you have the freedom to organise your work in the way that works best for you.

What do you bring?

This is what we are looking for:

• Several years of experience as an ecologist within consultancy, government or a comparable professional environment;

• Broad knowledge of Dutch flora, fauna and habitats;

• Knowledge of legislation and regulations concerning protected species and the Dutch Environment and Planning Act (Omgevingswet);

• Experience with ecological surveys and consultancy;

• A practical approach to field biology: you are just as comfortable working outdoors as you are behind a desk;

• A coaching attitude towards colleagues;

• Experience working for an ecological consultancy is a strong advantage.

Important requirements for international candidates

Because you will be working with Dutch clients, authorities and colleagues, the following requirements are essential:

• You have at least B1 level Dutch and are able to communicate independently in Dutch, both verbally and in writing.

• You are willing and available to attend Dutch language courses to further develop your Dutch language skills.

• You have at least 3 years of professional experience within the Dutch ecological field. This means that you have worked professionally in the Netherlands and are familiar with Dutch legislation, regulations, procedures and the Dutch ecological context.

These requirements are essential for the position and are therefore not optional.
