About The Role Join a small, senior engineering team in Amsterdam shaping the next generation of DevEco, the IDE for HarmonyOS developers. You’ll have significant technical ownership: exploring new AI-native developer experiences, building working prototypes, evaluating emerging agent architectures, and helping turn the strongest ideas into product direction together with DevEco HQ in China. What You’ll Do Build working prototypes and technical demos for AI-native IDE and developer-tooling features. Explore how modern coding agents handle context, tool use, planning, and verification, and adapt these approaches to HarmonyOS development. Evaluate emerging IDE, LLM, and agent architectures hands-on and turn findings into practical recommendations. Develop concepts for AI-assisted and agentic developer workflows that improve productivity and developer experience. Collaborate with universities, open-source communities, researchers, and industry partners. Work closely with the Amsterdam Team Lead and DevEco HQ to influence technical direction and future product capabilities. What We’re Looking For Hands-on experience building IDE, developer-tooling, or engineering-productivity features. Good understanding of IDE technologies such as IntelliJ Platform, PSI, LSP, or similar architectures. Practical experience with LLMs, coding agents, context engineering, agent orchestration, or evaluation. Ability to take an early-stage idea and turn it independently into a working prototype. Strong engineering judgment and problem-solving skills. Strong English and confidence collaborating with international teams. Based in Amsterdam or willing to relocate. Nice to Have Experience with compiler toolchains, build systems, runtimes, or developer test infrastructure. Contributions to developer-tools, AI coding, research, or open-source communities. Experience working with developer ecosystems that have limited tooling, documentation, or training data. Strong technical communication and the ability to clearly explain and advocate for technical ideas.

Core Responsibilities

You will build prototypes for AI-native IDE features and evaluate emerging agent architectures for HarmonyOS development. You will also collaborate with international teams and research partners to influence the technical direction of the product.

Requirements

The role requires hands-on experience with IDE technologies like the IntelliJ Platform and practical knowledge of LLMs and agentic workflows. Candidates must possess strong engineering judgment and the ability to independently develop technical prototypes.
