Key Skills
Job Description
Sonae Sierra is a fully integrated real estate company delivering end-to-end solutions across development, management, and investment. With over 35 years of experience, we manage more than €6.8 billion in assets across a diverse range of asset classes and have built a solid track record with leading investors and financial institutions. Our international presence spans 36 countries in Europe, Latin America, Africa, and Asia, supported by a team of around 900 people. Guided by strong ethical principles and a deep commitment to sustainability, we are focused on long-term value creation, operational excellence, and growth. At Sonae Sierra, you will thrive in an open-minded, multicultural community that values diverse perspectives and expertise. Here, you are empowered to own your journey, tap into a rich ecosystem of learning, and build a meaningful career shaping the future of real estate. We are looking for a Senior Controller to join our team in the Netherlands. Responsibilities: Lead the end-to-end process for annual financial statements and statutory reports, including planning, production of the annual reports and follow-up of outstanding topics, for a portfolio of approximately 40 holding companies. Maintain an overview of key deadlines (closings, annual accounts, tax filings, audits) and ensure timely delivery, coordinating with external consultants. Liaise with and ensure delivery from remote teams and external providers or auditors across accounting, tax, legal, and other areas. Collect and consolidate information on relevant transactions from different internal departments to document local files and support the annual reports. Perform basic reviews (“sense checks”) of reports and accounts, escalating technical issues when needed. Keep clear documentation and trackers for entities, processes, deadlines, and open points. Identify recurring issues or inefficiencies and propose practical improvements to processes and coordination. Provide concise status updates and overviews of local changes in accounting, tax, or applicable regulatory requirements. Requirements: Minimum 10 years’ experience in finance, controlling, or back-office coordination, ideally within multi-entity structures. Good working understanding of accounting and tax at a non-expert level, with the ability to liaise comfortably with specialists. Strong coordination and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple entities, stakeholders, and deadlines in parallel. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, including experience working with remote and cross-functional teams. High sense of ownership and reliability, with a proactive approach to follow-up and closing open points. Strong attention to detail and a structured way of working, including the use of checklists, trackers, and documentation. Adaptable, pragmatic, and comfortable working in an international environment, with a focus on collaboration and process improvement.
