Business Systems Software Engineer

Neat's Business Systems team owns the infrastructure behind how the company sells, bills, and supports its customers — Salesforce, NetSuite, and the integrations that connect them — supporting roughly 400 internal users across the business. It's a small team that balances high-volume day-to-day support with the systems work that keeps the business running.

This role is designed to transform how our business systems team operates, driving a shift toward software-engineering-focused practices and methodology. As an early member of this evolving model, you will directly influence our technical architecture, development operations, and long-term engineering strategy.

The Opportunity

You will architect, build, and maintain solutions across Salesforce, NetSuite, and our integrated ecosystem. This position offers a greenfield development opportunity where you will own key technology and architectural choices. Using modern development tools, you’ll drive engineering efficiency while retaining end-to-end ownership—ensuring every solution meets the highest standards for quality, security, and production readiness.

Your initial focus will involve building the skill-based quoting agent for our next-generation quoting workflow, followed by engineering the subscription and entitlement engine for the Pulse commercial framework. Partnering closely with our Business Systems Product Manager and technical peers, you will translate strategic business requirements into scalable, resilient architecture.

Responsibilities

• Architect and deliver production-grade code across Apex, LWC, SuiteScript, and middleware solutions, enforcing rigorous architecture and security standards.

• Engineer robust automation pipelines and resilient API integrations spanning Salesforce, NetSuite, and core enterprise systems.

• Synthesize complex feedback from key stakeholders into iterative system enhancements and clear product roadmap contributions.

• Establish and enforce technical standards, security guardrails, and code reviews, ensuring full production readiness across all deliverables.

• Maintain thorough architecture and technical documentation to ensure long-term maintainability, scalability, and knowledge transfer across the organization.

• Engineer and own complex subscription and entitlement engines, managing high-stakes logic for proration, true-forward calculations, and co-term renewal cycles across Salesforce, NetSuite, and the Pulse platform.

• Translate complex commercial policy into technical logic, partnering with cross-functional stakeholders (Finance, Sales Operations, Customer Success) to ensure the system output aligns with business and financial requirements.

About You

• 5 or more years of commercial software development experience, including experience with enterprise architectures like Salesforce or NetSuite.

• Deep proficiency in core computer science fundamentals, including system design, data modeling, and security design patterns.

• Critical technical judgment to audit AI-generated code rigorously for performance, edge cases, and architectural integrity before deployment.

• Proven ability to navigate ambiguity, drive alignment, and deliver scalable technical solutions from high-level operational concepts.

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical industry experience.

• Experience designing 'defensive' system architectures—building for error handling, auditability, and observability, specifically for scenarios where manual operational intervention is required.

• A collaborative mindset that values the speed of low-code platforms while maintaining the rigor of traditional software engineering. You are comfortable bridging the gap between 'out-of-the-box' configuration and custom code.

Hiring in the UK, ideally for on-site in Cambridge or on the East Coast US for a remote position.

Salary range for the US: $120,000-160,000 or c£100,000 for UK
