What will you be doing?

As Buyer – Ferrous & Non-Ferrous Scrap, you will be responsible for sourcing and purchasing ferrous and non-ferrous scrap materials for our operations in Almelo.

This position requires someone who already knows the scrap metal business and the Dutch market. You understand how the market works, know the main players and have an established network of suppliers and business contacts in the Netherlands that you can further develop in your role at Riwald Recycling.

Your objective will be to secure competitive volumes, strengthen existing supplier relationships and actively identify new sourcing opportunities.

Your main responsibilities will include:

• Purchasing ferrous and non-ferrous scrap materials from existing and new suppliers;
• Actively using and further developing your existing network within the Dutch scrap and recycling market;
• Building strong and long-term relationships with scrap dealers, industrial suppliers, collectors and other market participants;
• Identifying new suppliers and sourcing opportunities to increase volumes;
• Negotiating prices, volumes, quality specifications, delivery conditions and commercial agreements;
• Closely monitoring scrap prices, market trends, supply conditions and competitor activity;
• Regularly visiting suppliers and potential business partners across the Netherlands;
• Working closely with Operations, Logistics and Sales to optimise material flows and ensure supply continuity;
• Monitoring the quality and specifications of purchased materials and managing any discrepancies with suppliers;
• Evaluating supplier performance in terms of quality, reliability, volumes and commercial conditions;
• Contributing to purchasing forecasts, budgets and commercial reporting;
• Ensuring that all purchasing activities comply with internal policies, applicable regulations and company compliance standards.

What are we looking for?

For this position, knowledge of the Dutch scrap metal market and an existing professional network in the Netherlands are key requirements.

We are looking for someone who:

• Has proven experience in the ferrous and/or non-ferrous scrap metal business, ideally in purchasing, trading or sourcing;
• Has a strong existing network of suppliers and business contacts within the Dutch scrap and recycling industry;
• Has a good understanding of the Dutch scrap market, its key players, pricing mechanisms and commercial dynamics;
• Has good knowledge of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap grades, qualities and specifications;
• Has a strong commercial mindset and excellent negotiation skills;
• Is comfortable developing new business and approaching potential suppliers;
• Is relationship-driven and able to build long-term partnerships;
• Is entrepreneurial, proactive and results-oriented;
• Is willing to travel regularly to suppliers and business partners;
• Speaks Dutch and English;
• Holds a valid driving licence.

A relevant degree in Business, Commerce, Supply Chain or a related field is an advantage, but for this position, hands-on industry experience, market knowledge and an established network are particularly important.
