Assistant Agriculture Finance Controller

About the role.

As an Assistant Agriculture Finance Controller, you will be part of the European Agriculture Finance organization, working closely with colleagues in France and the Netherlands. Reporting to the Agriculture Finance Manager MFE, you will play a key role in ensuring the accurate and timely processing, control and reconciliation of potato and seed transactions.

This is a hands-on and operational role, with a strong connection to our agricultural operations. You will work closely with Procurement, Finance, grading stations and field teams to ensure that transactions, stocks, payments and reporting are accurate and up to date.

What you’ll be doing.

• Manage the daily process for potato deliveries, including truck allocation, quantity and price checks, payment processing and invoicing.

• Monitor and reconcile potato stocks and production flows, ensuring accurate daily reporting to management.

• Process and control purchase and sales invoices for potatoes and seed potatoes, ensuring accuracy and compliance with established processes.

• Follow up on customer and supplier balances, including regular reconciliation and resolution of discrepancies.

• Support the management and resolution of internal and supplier-related disputes, working closely with Procurement, Finance and operational teams.

• Coordinate regular reviews of farmer accounts and outstanding balances, following up on actions with the relevant stakeholders.

• Contribute to the monthly balance sheet account reconciliations and other recurring financial controls.

• Approve and control transport invoices and other operational financial activities.

• Maintain and follow established processes and SOPs, while identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and ways of working.

• Contribute to cross-functional and digital projects, including dashboards, databases and other initiatives aimed at improving reporting and processes.

What you’ll need to be successful.

• Around 3 years of experience in a finance, accounting or controlling role, ideally within an industrial or structured environment.

• Strong interest in operational finance, with the ability to work accurately in a hands-on and process-driven environment.

• Fluent English is required, both written and spoken, as you will work regularly with colleagues and stakeholders across Europe.

• French is a strong advantage.

• Dutch would be a significant plus, particularly given the close collaboration with stakeholders in the Netherlands.

• Experience with SAP and confidence navigating different systems and tools.

• Good knowledge of Microsoft Office 365, particularly Excel.

• An interest in digital tools, AI and Power BI would be an advantage. Experience with Power BI is a plus but not essential.

• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to interact confidently with Finance, Procurement, agricultural field teams and operational sites.

• A proactive and autonomous approach: you are comfortable investigating an issue, finding the right information and taking action rather than waiting for instructions.

• A pragmatic and curious mindset, with the confidence to explore systems and processes and find practical solutions.

• Strong attention to detail and the ability to work responsibly with significant financial volumes.

• Flexibility and a strong team mindset, with the ability to collaborate across countries and functions.

About the team.

You will join the European Agriculture Finance team, reporting to the Agriculture Finance Manager MFE.

The team operates across France and the Netherlands, with close collaboration between Finance, Procurement, agricultural field teams and grading stations. The team works as a pool, meaning colleagues support one another across activities and countries to ensure business continuity and consistent processes.

The role is based in Harnes, France, with regular interaction with stakeholders in the Netherlands and across the agricultural operations.
