Outreach ◄ Back to All Categories Outreach Specialist - Bilingual Job Summary The Outreach Specialist plays a key role in advancing the mission of the Supervisor of Elections Office by supporting and executing community engagement, civic education, and voter outreach programs. This position assists in the planning, coordination, and implementation of outreach initiatives aimed at promoting voter registration, civic responsibility, and election education throughout Polk County. The Outreach Specialist is directly responsible for coordinating event logistics and fostering strong relationships with community partners. This role also involves assisting with the training of temporary outreach staff and volunteers, maintaining detailed program and transaction records, and ensuring all outreach efforts comply with Florida election laws and office standards. As a representative of the Supervisor of Elections Office, the Outreach Specialist must be an effective communicator and a positive ambassador in diverse public settings. Major Responsibilities Assist in the planning and execution of outreach programs that promote voter registration, civic responsibility, and election education across the community. Deliver age-appropriate presentations and materials to elementary, middle, high school, and college students. Attend and participate in a variety of outreach events, including but not limited to assisted living facilities, high school registration drives/educational presentations, community festivals/fairs, holiday events, and parades. Build and maintain strong relationships with community members. Represent the Supervisor of Elections Office at community events, educational forums, school functions, and civic celebrations. Help manage the logistics of outreach activities, including setup and take-down at events. Support the training and supervision of temporary outreach staff, volunteers, and interns. Serve as a backup representative or spokesperson at events, when needed. Maintain accurate records of outreach activities and related transactions in accordance with office procedures. Perform other duties as assigned by Outreach Management or Supervisor of Elections. Monthly Maintain outreach records, including event information, attendance documentation, transaction tracking, and supply inventory in accordance with office procedures. Quarterly/Annually Attend annual retreat to build and maintain relationships. Complete mandatory security training. Elections Specific Collaborate with other departments to ensure consistency and accuracy of all public-facing election information. Print ballots for voters and ensure guidelines are followed for voter privacy and election integrity. Secure and count ballots for transportation to the operations center for processing. Assist at the operations center on election day after headquarters closes in any capacity needed. Qualifications Must be fluent in Spanish. Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; some college coursework or experience in public relations, communications, political science, education, or related fields preferred. Preferred Experience Experience working in a government, elections, or nonprofit environment. Background in civic education, youth programming, or working with schools is a strong plus. Valid Florida driver’s license and reliable transportation required. Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, depending on event schedules. Skills Communication Skills Strong verbal and written communication skills in both English and Spanish. Comfortable speaking to diverse audiences (students, educators, community members). Ability to present complex election information in a clear and engaging way. Public Speaking & Presentation Confident public speaker with experience delivering age-appropriate presentations. Ability to lead school-based programs and represent the office at events. Leadership & Team Management Experience supervising staff, volunteers, or interns. Ability to train, support, and motivate a team. Strong organizational and decision-making skills. Project & Event Management Skilled in planning and coordinating outreach events, programs, and logistics. Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously. Attention to detail in scheduling, event setup, and execution. Relationship-Building Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with schools, community partners, and civic organizations. Professional and respectful in interactions with educators, administrators, and the public. Data & Record Management Organized in maintaining accurate records of outreach efforts, attendance, transaction tracking, and supply inventory. Ability to follow established procedures for documentation and recordkeeping. Civic Knowledge & Legal Compliance Understanding of Florida election laws and regulations (or willingness to learn). Awareness of legal and ethical standards in civic education and election outreach. Commitment to nonpartisan communication and engagement. Adaptability & Problem-Solving Flexible and responsive in a fast-paced, community-focused environment. Ability to troubleshoot challenges at events or with staffing/logistics. Technical Proficiency Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Comfortable learning internal databases or scheduling tools. Physical Requirements And Working Environment Ability to drive a county vehicle to attend outreach events across Polk County; must possess a valid Florida driver’s license, maintain a clean driving record, and meet the County’s driving requirements. Frequent travel to schools, community centers, and event sites, sometimes outside of standard business hours (evenings and weekends required occasionally). Ability to lift, carry, and transport materials such as outreach supplies, signage, tables, and event equipment (typically up to 30–40 pounds). Frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching during outreach events and setup/take-down. Comfort working indoors and outdoors, sometimes in varying weather conditions. Extended periods of computer use for recordkeeping and administrative tasks.

Requirements

Candidates must be fluent in Spanish and possess at least a high school diploma or equivalent. A valid Florida driver's license and the ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, are required.
