About The Role As a Data Engineer at Zonneplan, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the backbone of our data-driven initiatives. Your primary responsibility will be to build and enhance our central data platform, ensuring reliable, secure, and accessible data for various teams across the organization. You will develop robust data pipelines, implement data quality standards, and establish the technical foundation for our upcoming machine learning platform. Working closely with teams such as Engineering, Trading & Optimization, and GenAI, you will translate data requests into sustainable self-service solutions, enabling colleagues to work autonomously with data. Your work will directly impact the speed and quality of decision-making, contributing to our overarching goal of making sustainable energy more efficient and accessible. You will also be instrumental in integrating AI tools like Claude Code to automate workflows and foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation. This role offers an exciting opportunity to influence the entire organization through data and AI, helping Zonneplan achieve its mission of a fossil-free Netherlands. Qualifications Minimum 1-2 years of experience as a Data Engineer or similar role Proficiency in SQL and data modeling techniques Experience in building and managing reliable data pipelines Strong understanding of data quality, reliability, and security best practices Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders Collaborative mindset with experience working across teams to translate user needs into technical solutions Experience with AI tools such as Claude Code or similar is a plus Familiarity with data stack tools like Dagster, Snowflake, Postgres, Kafka, dbt, Airbyte, Kubernetes, or AWS is advantageous Knowledge of data mesh or self-service analytics is a plus Proactive attitude in identifying and implementing improvements Quick learner with the ability to adapt to new tools and technologies Responsibilities Develop and enhance the organization-wide data platform to ensure data is reliable, secure, and accessible Create and maintain data pipelines and models that serve various teams and applications Monitor data processes proactively, identify issues early, and resolve them before impacting dashboards, analyses, or ML applications Implement access controls and data quality checks to enable safe and responsible data usage Translate data requests into scalable, sustainable solutions, reducing turnaround times Lay the technical groundwork for the ML platform, collaborating with developers to ensure alignment with their needs Integrate AI tools into development, testing, documentation, and monitoring workflows Automate repetitive tasks and share insights and learnings with the team to foster continuous improvement Stay updated on emerging data tools and AI technologies, quickly integrating them into workflows Benefits Competitive salary ranging from €3,500 to €5,000 gross per month, depending on experience 25 vacation days, with options to purchase additional days Reiskostenvergoeding (travel allowance) Personalized keuzebudget for sports, groceries, or other personal needs Access to Zonneplan Academie for ongoing professional development State-of-the-art tooling, including Claude Code Max 20x-licentie or equivalent Clear career growth pathway from medior to senior Data Engineer and eventually to Tech Lead Data Dynamic work environment with close collaboration among engineers, data specialists, and product teams Equal Opportunity Zonneplan is an equal opportunity employer. Requirements
Candidates must have at least 1-2 years of experience as a Data Engineer and proficiency in SQL and data modeling. Strong communication skills and experience with data stack tools like Snowflake, Kafka, or dbt are highly advantageous.
