About the Role About the Role: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Expert or Principal CMOS Image Sensor Characterization Engineer to join our innovative team and lead our characterization discipline. In this senior individual-contributor role, you will own the strategy, methodology, and technical direction for the electrical and optical characterization of CMOS image sensors, providing expert-level guidance across the organization and driving the development and validation of next-generation imaging solutions built on our novel color splitter technology. Responsibilities Define and own the strategic roadmap and methodology for CMOS image sensor characterization, setting the technical standards for electrical and optical performance testing across the organization. Architect and lead the development of advanced, automated characterization (e.g., light sources, optics, power supplies, oscilloscopes, probe stations), including build-vs-buy decisions for critical lab capabilities. Lead in-depth analysis and interpretation of sensor performance data (e.g., QE, SNR, DR, PRNU, DSNU, FPN, temporal noise, dark current, MTF), diagnosing root causes of complex or systemic performance issues. Collaborate closely with internal and external cross-functional teams on image sensor characterization topics. Author authoritative technical reports and present findings to executive leadership, customers, and partners, translating complex characterization data into clear, actionable insights. Drive sensor bring-up, debugging, and validation strategy from prototype through production, resolving the most complex technical challenges. Drive the development of internal tools, automation frameworks, and data pipelines that scale characterization capabilities across the organization. Share knowledge and mentor fellow engineers on characterization techniques and best practices as the team grows. Contribute to IP generation and technical publications as opportunities arise. Qualifications Master's or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Optics, or a related field (Ph.D. strongly preferred for Principal-level candidates). 10+ years (Expert) or 12–15+ years (Principal) of progressive, hands-on experience in CMOS image sensor testing or optoelectronic device characterization, including demonstrated technical leadership (academic or industry). Deep, expert-level understanding of image sensor architecture, pixel design, and performance metrics, including novel or emerging sensor technologies. Proven track record architecting and building complex, automated test and characterization systems and optical lab infrastructure. Expert-level proficiency in data analysis, scripting, and automation (Python required). Strong knowledge of image processing concepts, ISP pipelines, and image quality evaluation. Excellent independent problem-solving skills, with sound engineering judgment in ambiguous or fast-moving situations. Excellent executive communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical findings for leadership, customers, and external partners. Entrepreneurial mindset, with comfort operating with significant autonomy and ownership in a fast-paced start-up environment. Required Skills Deep, expert-level understanding of image sensor architecture, pixel design, and performance metrics, including novel or emerging sensor technologies. Proven track record architecting and building complex, automated test and characterization systems and optical lab infrastructure. Expert-level proficiency in data analysis, scripting, and automation (Python required; MATLAB a plus). Strong knowledge of image processing concepts, ISP pipelines, and image quality evaluation. Excellent independent problem-solving skills, with sound engineering judgment in ambiguous or fast-moving situations. Excellent executive communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical findings for leadership, customers, and external partners. Entrepreneurial mindset, with comfort operating with significant autonomy and ownership in a fast-paced start-up environment. Preferred Skills Experience with full camera systems or ISP pipelines. Familiarity with sensor interface protocols (e.g., MIPI CSI-2). Knowledge of advanced image quality metrics (e.g., color reproduction, sharpness, HDR tuning). Exposure to optical characterization techniques and simulation tools (e.g., Lumerical) is a plus.
