Finance Data Analyst (Contract)
Key Skills
Job Description
About We work with companies on finance data models, planning and reporting. Engagements run from structuring and connecting financial data through to forecasting, reporting and decision support. You'll work directly with me on supporting client delivery. Role Description The Finance Data Analyst sits between finance and data. You're either a data person with real finance knowledge, or a finance person with real data skills. One without the other won't work here. You'll pull financial and operational data out of client ERP, billing, CRM and bank systems and automate it where possible. You'll build clean datasets, join ledger data to operational drivers, and maintain account and entity mappings. You'll reconcile to the trial balance and bank, and build checks that catch duplicates, FX issues, intercompany mismatches and missing periods before anyone else sees them. From there you'll deliver monthly reporting packs and consolidations, roll forecasts forward off actuals, keep cash and working capital views current, and explain what moved with a first-draft recommendation attached. Recurring work becomes templates so the next engagement is faster. Model logic, client relationships and final decisions stay with the founder. Qualifications Required: 3 to 6 years in accounting, audit, controlling or FP&A Solid grasp of reconciliations, month-end close and consolidation, and the judgment to know when a number is wrong SQL: joins, aggregations, window functions, CTEs Advanced Excel including Power Query Data modeling: grain, keys, fact and dimension tables Ability to build and maintain a scheduled data refresh Clear written English and some overlap with Central European hours Nice to have: dbt, Python, APIs, Power BI, multi-entity groups. Not required: cloud infrastructure, orchestration, CI/CD. Build and maintain a pipeline, not architect a platform. Engagement Contract, hybrid. Fixed monthly fee against agreed deliverables, released on review. Starts with a paid trial task and a one-month pilot.
Core Responsibilities
You will pull and automate financial and operational data from various client systems to build clean datasets and maintain mappings. Additionally, you will deliver monthly reporting packs, manage forecasts, and build checks to ensure data accuracy and integrity.
Requirements
Candidates must have 3 to 6 years of experience in accounting, audit, or FP&A with a strong grasp of reconciliations and month-end processes. Technical proficiency in SQL, advanced Excel, and data modeling is required, along with clear written English.
