Job Title: Financial Accountant – EMEA Location: Rotterdam, the Netherlands Contract and Shift: Full-time | Hybrid working – minimum 2 days per week in the Rotterdam office Package includes: Competitive salary and benefits package Join our EMEA Finance team in Rotterdam and take on a varied role where you’ll have real ownership across financial accounting, reporting, compliance and day-to-day finance operations. Working closely with colleagues across EMEA and the AB Agri Central Finance team in the UK, you’ll help ensure our financial information is accurate, timely and well controlled. This is a great opportunity for an experienced finance professional who enjoys combining hands-on accounting with problem solving and continuous improvement. You’ll work in an international, collaborative environment where you can make a visible contribution to improving processes, systems and the experience we provide to our internal stakeholders. What You'll Be Doing Supporting month-end and year-end close, including journals, accruals, account reconciliations and variance analysis. Maintaining accurate general ledger balances and supporting high-quality financial reporting. Managing key Accounts Payable activities, including supplier invoices, purchase-order matching, vendor reconciliations and payment cycles. Supporting Accounts Receivable, including allocating customer payments, account statements, aged debt monitoring and credit control. Maintaining accurate customer, product, contract and pricing master data within our ERP systems. Ensuring billing and invoicing are accurate, timely and aligned with agreed commercial terms. Preparing VAT returns for entities in the Netherlands, Spain and Finland, together with EC Sales and Intrastat reporting. Supporting internal controls, compliance activities and internal and external audits. Reviewing corporate credit-card transactions and supporting colleagues with expense queries. Working closely with finance colleagues and stakeholders across EMEA and the UK. Identifying opportunities to improve finance processes and supporting system upgrades and other improvement projects. Providing wider financial and administrative support as part of a small, collaborative finance team. What You'll Bring A relevant qualification or degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or a related discipline; a professional accounting qualification such as ACCA, CIMA, CMA or CPA would be advantageous. Demonstrable experience in financial accounting, general ledger and month-end close activities. Strong numerical and analytical skills with excellent attention to detail. Good working knowledge of ERP systems; experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 would be an advantage. Strong Excel skills, including formulas, lookups and PivotTables. A proactive, practical approach to identifying and resolving issues. The ability to manage competing priorities and deliver accurately to deadlines. Strong written and verbal communication skills with confidence working across different teams and countries. Fluency in English; Dutch language skills would be advantageous. A collaborative mindset and willingness to take ownership in a dynamic, international environment. Flexibility to travel occasionally to the UK or Finland for meetings, collaboration or training. Core Responsibilities
The Financial Accountant will manage day-to-day finance operations, including month-end closing, financial reporting, and compliance activities. They will also support accounts payable and receivable processes while identifying opportunities for continuous process improvement.
Requirements
Candidates should possess a degree in Accounting, Finance, or Economics, with professional qualifications like ACCA or CIMA being advantageous. Strong experience in general ledger accounting, ERP systems, and Excel is required, along with excellent analytical and communication skills.
