Job Description
Set Designer (Must be able to execute design as well) for A Christmas Carol in December Role Description This temporary Set Designer role at Orange Theatre Company is a hybrid position based in Amsterdam, with the flexibility to complete some tasks from home. The Set Designer will collaborate closely with the director, production team, and stage management to conceptualize and develop set designs that support the artistic vision and practical needs of each production. Daily responsibilities include creating sketches, 3D models, or digital renderings; selecting materials; drafting detailed plans; and coordinating with builders, painters, and prop teams to ensure accurate execution. The role also involves overseeing set construction and installation, attending rehearsals to adjust designs based on blocking and technical requirements, and working with lighting and multimedia teams to integrate visual elements. The Set Designer is expected to manage timelines and budgets, maintain safety standards, and contribute to production meetings and creative discussions throughout the rehearsal and performance period. Qualifications Proficiency in Set Design, including conceptual development, drafting, and model-making for stage productions. Experience collaborating on Lighting design and integration to support mood, focus, and overall stage visuals. Ability to work with Video Production and Video Editing teams to incorporate projected or filmed elements into the set. Familiarity with Animation or motion graphics as part of multimedia stage environments is an advantage. Strong visual storytelling skills, attention to detail, and an understanding of theater production workflows. Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet production deadlines, and work effectively in a collaborative, multicultural environment. Working knowledge of relevant design software (e.g., CAD tools, 3D modeling, or graphic design programs). Practical experience in theater, film, or live performance set design; formal training in design, theater, or a related field is preferred but not strictly required. Comfort working in a hybrid setup in Amsterdam, including on-site work in theaters and workshops as needed. Tech week and Build week: November 29 - December 1 (December 1 is Tech day) Performance dates: December 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13
