Job Description

Company Description Xtentis builds privacy-preserving, in-room sensing and software for long-term care environments, addressing Europe’s growing shortage of care professionals and rising care needs. The company’s technology detects and verifies safety-critical events before alerting staff, reducing false alarms and providing meaningful context. Xtentis’ approach avoids cameras and wearables, focusing instead on turning room-level signals into trusted care information. This helps care teams protect privacy while gaining more time for direct, person-centered care. We are building towards a proof-of-concept and validation in real care settings. Role Description Xtentis needs a technical co-founder to take the sensing and software platform architecture from proof-of-concept to field-validated product. The core technical domain is multimodal sensor fusion and behavioral state modeling - with all inference running on-device. We need is someone who has shipped hardware-enabled software products before, understands the constraints of edge processing at a system level, and can direct specialist contributors effectively whether they are employees or contractors. You will own the technical roadmap - plan, direct and execute prototype development in collaboration with specialist contractors, validate performance in real care environments during pilot deployments, and contribute to investor and regulatory conversations on the technical side. As co-founder you will have a seat at the table on all strategic decisions, and the right candidate will be on the CTO track from Day 1. This is a part-time hybrid location role, based in Utrecht. Do not apply if you are not already based in the Netherlands.Compensation includes a modest founding salary once bridge funding is obtained (already applied for). The role comes with meaningful equity with a vesting schedule tied to time and performance milestones. There is a strong preference for candidates with working knowledge of Dutch. Qualifications Background in software architecture, AI systems, or sensor-based platforms, with direct hands-on experience in edge or embedded environments. Experience deploying or directing deployment of ML models on resource-constrained hardware (edge devices, embedded Linux, microcontrollers, or similar) rather than purely cloud-based inference. Track record of shipping hardware-enabled software products — something that involved both a physical device and the software running on or around it. Ability to explain technical concepts clearly to care providers, pilot and research partners, and investors. Comfortable reading and evaluating embedded systems or firmware work produced by specialist contractors, even if you would not write it yourself. Demonstrated ability to thrive in an early-stage startup, take ownership, and work hands-on across architecture, implementation, and iteration. Familiarity with privacy-preserving architectures and data minimization principles is a plus. Experience in healthcare, medtech, or other regulated environments is useful but not required. What we are not looking for Someone whose entire background is cloud infrastructure, web platforms, or generative AI without exposure to physical systems or edge constraints. If your background is only in software products and platforms, do not apply. Someone who needs a full-time salary from day one. Someone who is not based in the Netherlands or not able to be in Utrecht regularly.

Core Responsibilities

You will own the technical roadmap and lead the transition of the sensing and software platform from proof-of-concept to a field-validated product. This involves directing specialist contractors, managing prototype development, and contributing to strategic investor and regulatory discussions.

Requirements

Candidates must have hands-on experience with edge or embedded systems and a proven track record of shipping hardware-enabled software products. Proficiency in Dutch is strongly preferred, and you must be based in the Netherlands to be in Utrecht regularly.

Benefits

  • Meaningful equity
  • Founding salary

About Xtentis

Industry: Hospitals and Health Care

Company size: 2-10 employees

By 2030, Europe will face more than 4 million unfilled long-term care roles, while the number of people needing care continues to rise. Yet care teams still struggle to trust safety technology — too many false alarms, too little context, and real privacy concerns. Xtentis changes that. We provide privacy-preserving, in-room sensing and software that detects and verifies safety-critical events before staff are alerted. Instead of every movement becoming an alarm, we confirm what actually happened — without cameras or wearables. Our goal is simple: turn room-level signals into trusted care information, so teams gain more time for what matters most — care. We are currently selecting pilot partners and research collaborators to validate this in real care environments.
