Instructional Designer — eLearning and Course Development for NATO with security clearance
Key Skills
Job Description
Relocation to the United States — Norfolk, Virginia. We provide the NATO-5 visa.
A multinational defence organisation runs a large education and training catalogue and builds much of it as eLearning. This role designs those courses end to end, working with the subject matter experts who hold the content.
What you would be doing
- Working with subject matter experts across nations and partner organisations to analyse the learning need.
- Defining clear, measurable learning objectives aligned with the course as a whole.
- Designing the course structure — modules, lessons, assessments — so the content flows.
- Developing the instructional content from source material, using storyboard-based design.
- Choosing instructional strategies that work for different learning styles.
- Designing pre-, formative and summative assessments that actually gauge progress.
- Running the evaluation that measures the course impact, and a feedback mechanism that feeds the next revision.
- Providing instructional design assistance and quality assurance to other course providers.
- Preparing, facilitating and evaluating instructor-led activities, virtual and residential.
- Researching emerging learning technologies and recommending what is worth adopting.
What you would bring
- A degree in education and training development or a related programme — learning theory, educational psychology, instructional design.
- At least three years inside the last five in eLearning development.
- Experience communicating with clients and subject matter experts through the whole design process.
- Hands-on use of current authoring tools to build standards-compliant learning content.
- Experience developing content inside a learning management system such as Moodle.
- A portfolio covering at least three eLearning projects, with representative storyboards.
- Fluent professional English.
This is a long engagement that renews year on year, not a short project.
Core Responsibilities
Design and develop end-to-end eLearning courses by collaborating with subject matter experts to define learning objectives and structure. Facilitate instructor-led training, evaluate course impact, and provide quality assurance for educational content.
Requirements
Requires a degree in education, instructional design, or a related field and at least three years of experience in eLearning development. Candidates must be proficient in authoring tools and learning management systems, with a portfolio demonstrating previous project work.
