Job Description

As Tribe Lead Global Infrastructure Platform as a Service (PaaS), you will define the future of ING’s data and integration platforms, enabling innovation at scale while driving simplification, resilience and enterprise-wide impact. This is a unique opportunity to influence technology strategy across the bank and lead a global engineering organisation through its next phase of transformation.

The team

You will form part of the Global Infrastructure management team.  Global Infrastructure is the technology backbone of ING, providing the platforms, networks, cloud services, and core technology foundations that power digital banking across the world. Automation & Orchestration sits at the heart of this landscape, defining how infrastructure is designed, automated, secured, and operated at scale.

You will lead a global tribe of around 340 engineers and technology leaders. The tribe owns the data services and integration services platforms that connect applications, power critical business processes and support the secure flow of data across ING. Working closely with business, technology, architecture and risk leaders, you will help create a more standardised, scalable and future-ready platform landscape. Roles & Responsibilities

In this role, you will drive the strategy, transformation and adoption of ING’s global platform as a service capabilities. 

  • Leading the enterprise-wide vision and roadmap for data services and integration services, ensuring

  • platforms remain secure, resilient and ready for future business needs. 

  • Driving platform standardisation and convergence, creating reusable services that accelerate delivery and reduce complexity across the bank. 

  • Steering innovation, automation and product lifecycle management, ensuring investments deliver measurable value and long-term sustainability.

Technical Skills

Functional emphasis: Data and integration platform strategy, service lifecycle management, platform adoption and cross-domain stakeholder alignment.

  • Database platforms: relational and NoSQL concepts, high availability, replication, backup and lifecycle governance. (deep Oracle experience, but also PostgreSQL and Kassandra)

  • Messaging and event streaming: Kafka/Pulsar-style architectures, durability, ordering, replay and resilience.

  • File transfer and integration services: managed file transfer, APIs, integration middleware and scheduling.

  • Search and indexing platforms: search services, indexing, scaling, resilience and operating models.

  • PaaS operating model: reusable data/integration products, service catalogues and lifecycle ownership.

  • Data resilience and continuity: RPO/RTO, active-active / active-passive patterns, failover and recovery validation.

  • Security and compliance for data platforms: encryption, access control, classification, auditability and controls.

  • Automated platform provisioning: self-service templates and lifecycle automation.

  • Note: Tribe Lead level technical fluency — intended for direction-setting, architectural challenge, risk governance, investment steering and senior engineering leadership; not a hands-on engineer requirement.
