Job Description
We are looking for a Senior Legal Counsel (m/f/d) to join our team on an initial 12-month fixed-term contract in Amsterdam, Netherlands. In this key role, you will partner with business leaders and stakeholders throughout the European region, providing pragmatic legal advice, managing complex legal matters, and helping the organisation navigate an evolving regulatory landscape.
Responsibilities:
- Strategize contracting mechanisms with business stakeholders to manage risks and protect business interests.
- Draft, review, and negotiate legal agreements including client and vendor contracts, Master Services Agreements, joint venture agreements, and other legal documents to achieve favourable outcomes while ensuring compliance.
- Develop and maintain standard contracting templates for each of our service areas.
- Work alongside the Group Legal team and Regional Leadership, support the delivery of our Legal Strategy within the region, with overall alignment to our business objectives and risk appetite.
- Deliver proactive, strategic and commercially-centred legal advice to our Regional Country Board and Regional Management team, on all key legal matters.
- Monitor and advise on changes in relevant legislation and regulatory requirements within the region, ensuring our services remain in compliance.
- Provide legal support for critical corporate transactions, including M&A activity.
- Provide management and oversight of litigation, arbitration and dispute resolutions, working alongside external counsel where appropriate.
- Provision of advice to the business on cases of non-recovery.
- Working alongside the Group Ethics & Compliance function, support the business’ compliance to industry specific regulations, competition law and broader, applicable legal frameworks.
- Collaborate with our Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) function to facilitate the identification, assessment and monitoring of legal risks across the region.
- Manage the region’s Legal Risk Register.
Qualifications
- Qualified Solicitor / Attorney with a current practising certificate (or jurisdictional equivalent).
- Fluency in both Dutch and English languages.
- A minimum of 8-10 years of post-qualification experience, with significant experience gained in in-house legal roles, within global organisations.
- Extensive experience within Corporate and Commercial law, regulatory compliance and corporate governance. Experience in construction law is a plus.
- In-depth knowledge of legal principles and legislative requirements within the jurisdiction our business operates within.
- Advanced negotiation skills for high-stakes contracts, dispute settlements, and managing relationships with external parties.
- Proficiency in legal research and staying abreast of legislative changes.
