Job Description

As Tribe Lead Global Infrastructure Data Centres, you will lead the transformation of ING’s global hosting in our data centres and edge footprint, creating a more resilient, secure and standardised infrastructure platform that supports innovation across the bank. This is a unique opportunity to influence enterprise-wide strategy, drive large-scale change and leave a lasting impact on ING’s global technology landscape.

The team

You will form part of the Global Infrastructure management team.  Global Infrastructure is the technology backbone of ING, providing the platforms, networks, cloud services, and core technology foundations that power digital banking across the world. Automation & Orchestration sits at the heart of this landscape, defining how infrastructure is designed, automated, secured, and operated at scale.

You will lead a global tribe of around 173 engineers and technology leaders. The tribe is responsible for ING’s hosting environments in our data centres and edge facilities worldwide, providing the secure, resilient and scalable environments that underpin critical banking services. Working closely with senior stakeholders across technology, architecture, risk and operations, you will lead major convergence, automation and resilience initiatives while fostering a culture of ownership, collaboration, learning and engineering excellence.

Roles & Responsibilities

In this role, you will shape ING’s global data centre strategy and ensure the bank has a resilient and future-ready infrastructure foundation. 

  • Leading the enterprise-wide vision and roadmap for data centre and edge capabilities, aligning business ambitions, resilience requirements and technology strategy. 

  • Driving global standardisation and convergence, reducing complexity and creating a modern, efficient and scalable physical infrastructure footprint. 

  • Creating reusable, automated data centre services that accelerate delivery, improve operational efficiency and support innovation at scale. 

  • Overseeing portfolio priorities, investment decisions, financial performance, risk management and

  • regulatory compliance across the domain. 

  • Building strong partnerships across countries and infrastructure domains to align demand, capacity

  • planning and strategic priorities. 

  • Embedding a product-led operating model across infrastructure services, ensuring platforms are managed through clear customer outcomes, adoption measures, value creation and lifecycle accountability.

Technical Skills

Functional emphasis: Physical/hosting infrastructure strategy, edge footprint, capacity alignment, standardisation and resilient hosting foundations.

  • Data centre infrastructure: power, cooling, racks, structured cabling, physical security and capacity planning

  • Hosting architecture: data centre, co-location, regional hosting footprint and workload placement principles.

  • Resilience engineering: redundancy tiers, fault domains, site failover, disaster recovery and availability zones.

  • Physical-to-digital integration: linking facility capacity to compute, storage, network and platform demand.

  • Edge infrastructure: edge-site design, distributed hosting, remote operations and lifecycle governance.

  • Data centre automation: DCIM, inventory, provisioning interfaces and service orchestration concepts.

  • Sustainability and efficiency: power utilisation, cooling efficiency and environmental constraints.

  •  Hardware lifecycle: refresh cycles, standard builds, supplier dependency, asset management and decommissioning.

Note: Tribe Lead level technical fluency — intended for direction-setting, architectural challenge, risk governance, investment steering and senior engineering leadership; not a hands-on engineer requirement
