At Sytac, you will join an enterprise team inside one of the Netherlands' largest e-commerce and retail environments. You’ll be embedded in a team that owns the quality of a high-volume domain: ~30 Kotlin/Spring Boot microservices on Oracle and PostgreSQL, a streaming Kafka event landscape, and a Next.js customer-facing app. The primary mission? Slicing legacy business logic out of a massive Oracle database and migrating it safely into modern microservices. That migration is only safe with an automated safety net proving system behavior hasn’t changed. Our web automation is in great shape—our backend automation needs you to make the difference. What you'll do Grow backend test automation across services, covering APIs, relational databases, and Kafka event streams. Build the regression safety net for the Oracle carve-out—proving logic behaves identically before and after it leaves the database. Guard data integrity for subscription data split across Oracle and PostgreSQL databases. Keep web E2E automation healthy, fast, and trustworthy using Playwright as the customer app evolves. Wire tests into CI/CD pipelines so failures surface early in development, not late in acceptance. Extend performance tests for backend services and mature our existing AI-assisted testing setup. Shift testing left by collaborating with developers on test strategy and testable requirements from day one—not testing as an afterthought. What we're looking for 3+ years of hands-on automated testing experience, with a heavy emphasis on backend and API automation. Solid JavaScript / TypeScript skills—enough to be productive in our Playwright test suite from day one. Strong SQL skills and experience writing tests directly against relational databases. Tooling expertise: Deep experience with Playwright, REST Assured, or equivalent frameworks. CI/CD integration: Hands-on experience embedding automated tests into modern deployment pipelines. Mindset: Strong analytical capabilities, detail-oriented, independent, and proactive. Strong English communication skills and a track record of thriving in multidisciplinary engineering teams. NL residency required. Expats already living and working in the Netherlands are very welcome. We are not offering relocation for this role. Nice to have JVM ecosystem: Experience with Kotlin, Java, or another JVM language. Event-driven systems: Familiarity with Apache Kafka or messaging architectures. AI Tooling: Experience incorporating AI-assisted workflows into testing setups. Legacy Logic: Experience testing against legacy database logic or complex Oracle systems. Domain knowledge: Background in subscriptions, recurring billing, or high-scale e-commerce. Dutch language skills. Core Responsibilities

Develop and grow backend test automation for microservices, APIs, and Kafka event streams to ensure a safe migration from legacy Oracle databases. Maintain web E2E automation using Playwright and integrate tests into CI/CD pipelines to shift testing left.

Requirements

Requires over 3 years of automated testing experience with strong skills in JavaScript, TypeScript, and SQL. Candidates must be residents of the Netherlands and have expertise in Playwright or REST Assured.
