Organization Description GEARS is a study association that provides a dedicated platform for STEM students from the University of Groningen and Hanze University of Applied Sciences to compete in student challenges. The organization focuses on fostering innovation, collaboration, and practical problem-solving skills through challenge-based learning. By connecting students with real-world projects and competitions, GEARS helps participants develop technical, professional, and leadership capabilities. The association works closely with academic institutions and industry partners to create meaningful opportunities for student growth and community engagement. Roles GEARS is currently looking for 2 board members: Commissioner of Internal Affairs The role of Commissioner of Internal Affairs is a part-time, hybrid position based in Groningen, Netherlands. This position oversees the internal functioning of GEARS, including coordination between committees, monitoring internal processes, and ensuring effective communication across the association. Weekly tasks include organizing internal meetings, maintaining documentation and policies, supporting member onboarding, and managing internal workflows and timelines. The Intern will collaborate closely with other board members to align internal operations with strategic goals, resolve internal issues, and promote a positive, inclusive association culture. The role also involves gathering feedback from members, implementing improvements in internal structures, and ensuring that GEARS remains a well-organized and engaging environment for STEM students. Qualifications Motivation to learn and develop skills for each specific role over the academic year Fluency in English is required, while proficiency in Dutch is not required, but is a bonus. Commissioner of Public Relations The role of Commissioner of Public Relations is a part-time, hybrid position based in Groningen, Netherlands. In this position, the PR commissioner develops and executes communication strategies to promote GEARS’ activities, events, and student challenges to internal and external audiences. General responsibilities include managing social media channels, drafting and publishing announcements and newsletters, maintaining the association’s website, and designing promotional materials. The commissioner coordinates with other board members, engages with partner organizations and university stakeholders, and represents GEARS at events and meetings. The role also involves monitoring the effectiveness of outreach efforts, gathering feedback from members, and continuously improving the association’s public image and visibility. Qualifications Motivation to learn and develop skills for each specific role over the academic year Fluency in English is required, while proficiency in Dutch is not required, but is a bonus. Previous experience in UI/UX development is ideal. Neither of the roles are paid positions.

Requirements
