Job Description

About SiTime

SiTime is the Precision Timing company.

Timing is the heartbeat of all electronics, ensuring performance, resilience and scalability. For decades, quartz devices, non-silicon technology, have kept systems in sync, but they struggle in harsher, more demanding environments. MEMS-based Precision Timing delivers greater accuracy, smaller size and resilience. Today, MEMS timing powers over 400 applications, including high-growth ones in AI datacenters, automated driving, industrial and humanoid robots, wearables and IoT.

Our semiconductor MEMS programmable solutions offer a rich feature set that enables customers to differentiate their products with higher performance, smaller size, lower power, and better reliability. With more than 4 billion devices shipped, SiTime is changing the timing industry. For more information, visit: www.sitime.com.

Job Summary

The Principal Post-Silicon Validation Engineer will provide technical leadership for the validation, characterization, and productization of SiTime’s MEMS-based precision timing products. In this highly visible role, you will define validation strategies, measurement methodologies, release criteria, and risk assessment approaches from first silicon through production release. Working across design, product engineering, test engineering, quality, reliability, and operations teams, you will drive system-level understanding, resolve complex technical challenges, and influence next-generation product and validation architectures.

We are seeking a hands-on technical leader with deep expertise in semiconductor validation, characterization, debugging, and data analysis, combined with the ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and mentor engineers across the organization. Candidates do not need to meet every listed requirement to be considered for the position

Responsibilities:

  • Define and lead post-silicon validation and characterization strategies for MEMS-based timing products from first silicon through production release.
  • Provide hands-on technical leadership for validation, characterization, and release-to-production activities across multiple product lines and engineering sites.
  • Drive cross-functional execution as Systems Engineering Lead, coordinating activities across design, product engineering, test engineering, quality, reliability, operations, and external vendors.
  • Define validation methodologies, test coverage, release criteria, and risk assessment strategies to ensure product qualification and production readiness.
  • Define and drive system-level validation methodologies for frequency accuracy, phase noise, jitter, frequency stability, environmental robustness, and long-term reliability of MEMS-based timing products.
  • Collaborate with MEMS and circuit design teams to evaluate new silicon, identify performance limitations, and drive improvements in product performance, yield, and manufacturability.
  • Lead hands-on debugging, failure analysis, and root-cause investigations of silicon, package, test, and system-level issues, driving corrective actions through closure.
  • Architect and develop advanced test platforms, automated measurement systems, firmware, and data-analysis infrastructure to support product characterization and production release.
  • Analyze characterization data using statistical methods to identify trends, assess risks, and support product release decisions.
  • Drive deployment of characterization methodologies, screening algorithms, and validation learnings into manufacturing and production test environments.
  • Establish and promote best practices, technical standards, and continuous improvement initiatives for validation, characterization, and product industrialization.
  • Influence product architecture, technology roadmaps, and validation strategies for next-generation MEMS-based timing products.
  • Mentor engineers and provide technical leadership across the organization.
  • Represent Systems Engineering in technical reviews, product release decisions, customer escalations, and executive risk assessments.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline. Exceptional candidates with other technical backgrounds will be considered.
  • 10+ years of experience in post-silicon validation, characterization, and productization of semiconductor, MEMS, analog, mixed-signal, or sensor-based products.
  • Proven track record of leading complex cross-functional engineering projects from concept through production release.
  • Extensive experience defining validation strategies, test methodologies, characterization plans, risk assessments, and production release criteria.
  • Strong, fundamental knowledge of analog and mixed-signal circuits, semiconductor devices, and measurement techniques.
  • Hands-on experience with laboratory instrumentation, automated test systems, and hardware debug. Experience with timing metrology systems is highly desirable.
  • Experience developing automated measurement, data-processing, and analysis solutions using Python, MATLAB, or similar programming environments.
  • Strong statistical analysis skills with experience interpreting large characterization datasets and making data-driven engineering decisions.
  • Experience leading root-cause investigations and resolving complex silicon, package, test, and system-level issues.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to influence technical decisions across organizational boundaries.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers, influence technical decisions, and provide technical leadership in a highly collaborative environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with precision timing, oscillators, clocks, resonators, MEMS devices, or frequency-control products.
  • Knowledge of phase noise, jitter, Allan deviation, frequency stability, and precision timing measurement techniques.
  • Experience transferring characterization methodologies, screening algorithms, and test limits into high-volume manufacturing environments.
  • Experience designing PCB-based validation platforms, embedded firmware, and automated test infrastructure.
  • Experience influencing product architecture, technology roadmaps, engineering capabilities, and long-term organizational growth initiatives.
